Before the coming of this faith, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed.

keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy set out for him he endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.

They probed into what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when he testified beforehand about the sufferings appointed for Christ and his subsequent glory.They were shown that they were serving not themselves but you, in regard to the things now announced to you through those who proclaimed the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven– things angels long to catch a glimpse of.

And these all were commended for their faith, yet they did not receive what was promised.For God had provided something better for us, so that they would be made perfect together with us.

To the Jews I became like a Jew to gain the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law( though I myself am not under the law) to gain those under the law.To those free from the law I became like one free from the law( though I am not free from God’s law but under the law of Christ) to gain those free from the law.

These all died in faith without receiving the things promised, but they saw them in the distance and welcomed them and acknowledged that they were strangers and foreigners on the earth.

Tell me, you who want to be under the law, do you not understand the law?
