撒拉看見埃及人夏甲為亞伯拉罕所生的兒子在一邊嘲笑，

弟兄們，如果我仍然傳講割禮，我為什麼還受逼迫呢？如果我這樣做，十字架使人絆腳的地方早就沒有了。

因為你們如果順著肉體而活，就將死去；但如果順著聖靈治死身體的所作所為，就將活著。

看，我為此差派先知、智者、經師到你們這裡來；有些你們要殺害、要釘上十字架，有些要在會堂裡鞭打，從一個城追逼到另一個城。所以，從義人亞伯的血起，直到你們在聖所和祭壇之間所殺的巴拉加的兒子撒迦利亞的血為止，在地上所流的義人的血都要歸在你們身上。我確實地告訴你們：這一切都要臨到這世代。「耶路撒冷啊，耶路撒冷！這城殺害先知們，又用石頭砸死被差到她這裡的人！我多次想聚集你的兒女，像母雞把自己的小雞聚集在翅膀下，可是你們不願意！

「正如父愛我，我也愛你們。你們當住在我的愛裡。

耶穌回答：「我確確實實地告訴你：一個人如果不是由水和聖靈所生的，就不能進入神的國。

弟兄們，你們效法了猶太地區在基督耶穌裡屬神的各教會，因為你們也受了自己同胞的苦害，就像他們受了猶太人的苦害那樣。這些猶太人不但殺了主耶穌和先知們，也驅逐了我們，並且不討神的喜悅，又與所有的人作對，

有時候當眾受責罵、受患難；有時候陪伴那些受到同樣遭遇的人。的確，你們不但同情了那些被囚禁的人，而且當自己所擁有的被奪去時，你們也甘心接受了，因為知道你們在天上有更好的、長存的產業。

那出於女僕的是由肉體生的，那出於自由女人的是藉著應許生的。

所以現在，那些在基督耶穌裡的人，就不被定罪了，

那些想在肉體上體面的，他們才強求你們受割禮，他們只是要避免為基督的十字架受逼迫。事實上，那些受割禮的人自己也不遵守律法。他們要你們受割禮，是為了以你們的肉體誇耀。至於我，除了我們主耶穌基督的十字架以外，我絕不以別的誇耀。因這十字架，對我來說，世界已經被釘十字架了；對世界來說，我也已經被釘十字架了。
