The Lord had said to Abram,“ Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.

After the death of his father, God sent him to this land where you are now living.He gave him no inheritance here, not even enough ground to set his foot on. But God promised him that he and his descendants after him would possess the land, even though at that time Abraham had no child.God spoke to him in this way:‘ For four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own, and they will be enslaved and mistreated. look to Abraham, your father, and to Sarah, who gave you birth. When I called him he was only one man, and I blessed him and made him many. (niv)

“ You are the Lord God, who chose Abram and brought him out of Ur of the Chaldeans and named him Abraham. (niv)

Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Harran, they settled there.Terah lived 205 years, and he died in Harran. (niv)

“ Son of man, the people living in those ruins in the land of Israel are saying,‘ Abraham was only one man, yet he possessed the land. But we are many; surely the land has been given to us as our possession.’ (niv)

Listen, daughter, and pay careful attention: Forget your people and your father’s house.Let the king be enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord. (niv)
