“ You saw the suffering of our ancestors in Egypt; you heard their cry at the Red Sea.You sent signs and wonders against Pharaoh, against all his officials and all the people of his land, for you knew how arrogantly the Egyptians treated them. You made a name for yourself, which remains to this day.You divided the sea before them, so that they passed through it on dry ground, but you hurled their pursuers into the depths, like a stone into mighty waters. But as for you, the Lord took you and brought you out of the iron-smelting furnace, out of Egypt, to be the people of his inheritance, as you now are. (niv)

So Israel set out with all that was his, and when he reached Beersheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.And God spoke to Israel in a vision at night and said,“ Jacob! Jacob!”“ Here I am,” he replied.“ I am God, the God of your father,” he said.“ Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there.I will go down to Egypt with you, and I will surely bring you back again. And Joseph’s own hand will close your eyes.”Then Jacob left Beersheba, and Israel’s sons took their father Jacob and their children and their wives in the carts that Pharaoh had sent to transport him.So Jacob and all his offspring went to Egypt, taking with them their livestock and the possessions they had acquired in Canaan.Jacob brought with him to Egypt his sons and grandsons and his daughters and granddaughters— all his offspring.These are the names of the sons of Israel( Jacob and his descendants) who went to Egypt: Reuben the firstborn of Jacob.The sons of Reuben: Hanok, Pallu, Hezron and Karmi.The sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman.The sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath and Merari.The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez and Zerah( but Er and Onan had died in the land of Canaan). The sons of Perez: Hezron and Hamul.The sons of Issachar: Tola, Puah, Jashub and Shimron.The sons of Zebulun: Sered, Elon and Jahleel.These were the sons Leah bore to Jacob in Paddan Aram, besides his daughter Dinah. These sons and daughters of his were thirty-three in all.The sons of Gad: Zephon, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi and Areli.The sons of Asher: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi and Beriah. Their sister was Serah. The sons of Beriah: Heber and Malkiel.These were the children born to Jacob by Zilpah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Leah— sixteen in all.The sons of Jacob’s wife Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.In Egypt, Manasseh and Ephraim were born to Joseph by Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On.The sons of Benjamin: Bela, Beker, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim and Ard.These were the sons of Rachel who were born to Jacob— fourteen in all.The son of Dan: Hushim.The sons of Naphtali: Jahziel, Guni, Jezer and Shillem.These were the sons born to Jacob by Bilhah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Rachel— seven in all.All those who went to Egypt with Jacob— those who were his direct descendants, not counting his sons’ wives— numbered sixty-six persons.With the two sons who had been born to Joseph in Egypt, the members of Jacob’s family, which went to Egypt, were seventy in all.Now Jacob sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph to get directions to Goshen. When they arrived in the region of Goshen,Joseph had his chariot made ready and went to Goshen to meet his father Israel. As soon as Joseph appeared before him, he threw his arms around his father and wept for a long time.Israel said to Joseph,“ Now I am ready to die, since I have seen for myself that you are still alive.”Then Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household,“ I will go up and speak to Pharaoh and will say to him,‘ My brothers and my father’s household, who were living in the land of Canaan, have come to me.The men are shepherds; they tend livestock, and they have brought along their flocks and herds and everything they own.’When Pharaoh calls you in and asks,‘ What is your occupation?’you should answer,‘ Your servants have tended livestock from our boyhood on, just as our fathers did.’ Then you will be allowed to settle in the region of Goshen, for all shepherds are detestable to the Egyptians.” (niv)

Then the Lord said to Moses,“ See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will be your prophet.You are to say everything I command you, and your brother Aaron is to tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites go out of his country.But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in Egypt,he will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and with mighty acts of judgment I will bring out my divisions, my people the Israelites.And the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of it.”Moses and Aaron did just as the Lord commanded them.Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three when they spoke to Pharaoh.The Lord said to Moses and Aaron,“ When Pharaoh says to you,‘ Perform a miracle,’ then say to Aaron,‘ Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh,’ and it will become a snake.”So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the Lord commanded. Aaron threw his staff down in front of Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a snake.Pharaoh then summoned wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians also did the same things by their secret arts:Each one threw down his staff and it became a snake. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs.Yet Pharaoh’s heart became hard and he would not listen to them, just as the Lord had said.Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Pharaoh’s heart is unyielding; he refuses to let the people go. “ And I will make the Egyptians favorably disposed toward this people, so that when you leave you will not go empty-handed.Every woman is to ask her neighbor and any woman living in her house for articles of silver and gold and for clothing, which you will put on your sons and daughters. And so you will plunder the Egyptians.” (niv)

Take your flocks and herds, as you have said, and go. And also bless me.”The Egyptians urged the people to hurry and leave the country.“ For otherwise,” they said,“ we will all die!”So the people took their dough before the yeast was added, and carried it on their shoulders in kneading troughs wrapped in clothing.The Israelites did as Moses instructed and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold and for clothing.The Lord had made the Egyptians favorably disposed toward the people, and they gave them what they asked for; so they plundered the Egyptians.The Israelites journeyed from Rameses to Sukkoth. There were about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides women and children.Many other people went up with them, and also large droves of livestock, both flocks and herds. (niv)

and to Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. I assigned the hill country of Seir to Esau, but Jacob and his family went down to Egypt.“‘ Then I sent Moses and Aaron, and I afflicted the Egyptians by what I did there, and I brought you out.When I brought your people out of Egypt, you came to the sea, and the Egyptians pursued them with chariots and horsemen as far as the Red Sea.But they cried to the Lord for help, and he put darkness between you and the Egyptians; he brought the sea over them and covered them. You saw with your own eyes what I did to the Egyptians. Then you lived in the wilderness for a long time. (niv)

Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered my covenant.“ Therefore, say to the Israelites:‘ I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. (niv)

“ After Jacob entered Egypt, they cried to the Lord for help, and the Lord sent Moses and Aaron, who brought your ancestors out of Egypt and settled them in this place. (niv)

Remember today that your children were not the ones who saw and experienced the discipline of the Lord your God: his majesty, his mighty hand, his outstretched arm;the signs he performed and the things he did in the heart of Egypt, both to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his whole country;what he did to the Egyptian army, to its horses and chariots, how he overwhelmed them with the waters of the Red Sea as they were pursuing you, and how the Lord brought lasting ruin on them. (niv)

But do not be afraid of them; remember well what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt.You saw with your own eyes the great trials, the signs and wonders, the mighty hand and outstretched arm, with which the Lord your God brought you out. The Lord your God will do the same to all the peoples you now fear. (niv)

It was the Lord our God himself who brought us and our parents up out of Egypt, from that land of slavery, and performed those great signs before our eyes. He protected us on our entire journey and among all the nations through which we traveled. (niv)

They performed his signs among them, his wonders in the land of Ham.He sent darkness and made the land dark— for had they not rebelled against his words?He turned their waters into blood, causing their fish to die.Their land teemed with frogs, which went up into the bedrooms of their rulers.He spoke, and there came swarms of flies, and gnats throughout their country.He turned their rain into hail, with lightning throughout their land;he struck down their vines and fig trees and shattered the trees of their country.He spoke, and the locusts came, grasshoppers without number;they ate up every green thing in their land, ate up the produce of their soil.Then he struck down all the firstborn in their land, the firstfruits of all their manhood.He brought out Israel, laden with silver and gold, and from among their tribes no one faltered. For the Lord will vindicate his people and have compassion on his servants. (niv)

He sent his signs and wonders into your midst, Egypt, against Pharaoh and all his servants. (niv)

Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge. (niv)

the day he displayed his signs in Egypt, his wonders in the region of Zoan.He turned their river into blood; they could not drink from their streams.He sent swarms of flies that devoured them, and frogs that devastated them.He gave their crops to the grasshopper, their produce to the locust.He destroyed their vines with hail and their sycamore-figs with sleet.He gave over their cattle to the hail, their livestock to bolts of lightning.He unleashed against them his hot anger, his wrath, indignation and hostility— a band of destroying angels.He prepared a path for his anger; he did not spare them from death but gave them over to the plague.He struck down all the firstborn of Egypt, the firstfruits of manhood in the tents of Ham.
