But Abram said,“ Sovereign Lord, how can I know that I will gain possession of it?”

But Abram said,“ Lord and King, how can I know I will have this land as my own?”

But he said,“ O Lord God, how am I to know that I shall possess it?”

But Abram replied,“ O Sovereign Lord, how can I be sure that I will actually possess it?”

But he said,“ Lord GOD, how can I know that I will possess it?”

But he said,“ Lord God, how may I know that I will possess it?”

And he said,“ Lord GOD, how shall I know that I will inherit it?”

And he said, O Lord Jehovah, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?

But he said,“ Lord God, how can I know that I will possess it?”

But Abram said,“ O sovereign LORD, by what can I know that I am to possess it?”

He said,“ Lord Yahweh, how will I know that I will inherit it?”

Gideon said to God,“ If you will save Israel by my hand as you have promised—look, I will place a wool fleece on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you said.”And that is what happened. Gideon rose early the next day; he squeezed the fleece and wrung out the dew— a bowlful of water.Then Gideon said to God,“ Do not be angry with me. Let me make just one more request. Allow me one more test with the fleece, but this time make the fleece dry and let the ground be covered with dew.”That night God did so. Only the fleece was dry; all the ground was covered with dew. Hezekiah had asked Isaiah,“ What will be the sign that the Lord will heal me and that I will go up to the temple of the Lord on the third day from now?” (niv)

“ Ask the Lord your God for a sign, whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights.” (niv)

See, I am standing beside this spring, and the daughters of the townspeople are coming out to draw water.May it be that when I say to a young woman,‘ Please let down your jar that I may have a drink,’ and she says,‘ Drink, and I’ll water your camels too’— let her be the one you have chosen for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master.” (niv)

Gideon replied,“ If now I have found favor in your eyes, give me a sign that it is really you talking to me.Please do not go away until I come back and bring my offering and set it before you.” And the Lord said,“ I will wait until you return.”Gideon went inside, prepared a young goat, and from an ephah of flour he made bread without yeast. Putting the meat in a basket and its broth in a pot, he brought them out and offered them to him under the oak.The angel of God said to him,“ Take the meat and the unleavened bread, place them on this rock, and pour out the broth.” And Gideon did so.Then the angel of the Lord touched the meat and the unleavened bread with the tip of the staff that was in his hand. Fire flared from the rock, consuming the meat and the bread. And the angel of the Lord disappeared.When Gideon realized that it was the angel of the Lord, he exclaimed,“ Alas, Sovereign Lord! I have seen the angel of the Lord face to face!”But the Lord said to him,“ Peace! Do not be afraid. You are not going to die.”So Gideon built an altar to the Lord there and called it The Lord Is Peace. To this day it stands in Ophrah of the Abiezrites. (niv)

If they say to us,‘ Wait there until we come to you,’ we will stay where we are and not go up to them.But if they say,‘ Come up to us,’ we will climb up, because that will be our sign that the Lord has given them into our hands.” (niv)
