The angel added,“ I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.”

The angel continued,“ I will give you and your family many children. There will be more of them than anyone can count.”

The angel of the Lord also said to her,“ I will surely multiply your offspring so that they cannot be numbered for multitude.”

Then he added,“ I will give you more descendants than you can count.”

The angel of the LORD said to her,“ I will greatly multiply your offspring, and they will be too many to count.”

So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak.When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man.Then the man said,“ Let me go, for it is daybreak.” But Jacob replied,“ I will not let you go unless you bless me.”The man asked him,“ What is your name?”“ Jacob,” he answered.Then the man said,“ Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.”Jacob said,“ Please tell me your name.” But he replied,“ Why do you ask my name?” Then he blessed him there.So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying,“ It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.” (niv)

The Lord answered,“ I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites, leaving none alive.” (niv)

There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up.So Moses thought,“ I will go over and see this strange sight— why the bush does not burn up.”When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush,“ Moses! Moses!” And Moses said,“ Here I am.”“ Do not come any closer,” God said.“ Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”Then he said,“ I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God. Now come, I will send you back to Egypt.’“ This is the same Moses they had rejected with the words,‘ Who made you ruler and judge?’ He was sent to be their ruler and deliverer by God himself, through the angel who appeared to him in the bush.He led them out of Egypt and performed wonders and signs in Egypt, at the Red Sea and for forty years in the wilderness.“ This is the Moses who told the Israelites,‘ God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your own people.’He was in the assembly in the wilderness, with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors; and he received living words to pass on to us. “ I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the Lord Almighty. (niv)

who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen. (niv)
