神又對他說：「我是全能的神；你要繁衍增多；必有一國和眾邦之國從你而來，眾君王也必從你生出。

我要使你大大繁衍，多國因你而立，多王從你而出。

我要使你成為一個大國，我要祝福你，使你的名為大；你也必成為別人的祝福！

其中一位說：「明年這時候，我一定回到你這裡。看哪，你的妻子撒拉將會有一個兒子！」當時撒拉正在那人後面的帳篷入口聽著。亞伯拉罕和撒拉都已經老了，上了年紀，撒拉的月事也停止了。撒拉暗笑，心裡說：「我已經衰老，我的丈夫也老了，我還能有這等快樂嗎？」耶和華對亞伯拉罕說：「撒拉為什麼暗笑，說：『我已經老了，真的還能生育嗎？』在耶和華還有難成的事嗎？到了所定的時期，明年這時候，我必回到你這裡；那時撒拉就會有一個兒子。」

原來所應許的話是這樣的：「到明年這時候我要來，撒拉會生一個兒子。」

就像撒拉順從亞伯拉罕，稱他為主那樣；當你們行善而不怕任何驚擾的時候，就成為撒拉的兒女了。

但那在上面的耶路撒冷是自由女人；她是我們的母親。因為經上記著：「不能生育、沒有生產的女子啊，你要歡喜！沒有經歷臨產陣痛的女子啊，你要放聲呼喊！因為沒有丈夫的女子，比有丈夫的女子有更多的兒女。」不過弟兄們，你們就像以撒一樣，是應許的兒女。但正如那由肉體生的當時逼迫了那由聖靈生的，現在也是這樣。然而經上是怎麼說的呢？「把女僕和她的兒子趕出去！因為女僕的兒子，絕不可以與自由女人的兒子一同做繼承人。」因此，弟兄們，我們不是女僕的兒女，而是自由女人的兒女。

神祝福他們，又對他們說：「要繁衍增多，充滿大地，並要制伏這地；也要管理海裡的魚、天空的飛鳥，以及在地上活動的一切生物。」

他們祝福莉百加，對她說：「我們的妹妹啊，願你成為千萬人的母親，願你的後裔占有仇敵的城門！」

君王們必作你兒女的撫養人，王后們必作你兒女的乳母；他們必臉伏於地，向你下拜，舔你腳上的塵土。那時，你就知道：我是耶和華，等候我的必不致蒙羞。」
