It is a permanent sign of my covenant with the people of Israel. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, but on the seventh day he stopped working and was refreshed.’”

For in six days the Lord made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

This message concerning the fate of Israel came from the Lord:“ This message is from the Lord, who stretched out the heavens, laid the foundations of the earth, and formed the human spirit.

For the Lord is God, and he created the heavens and earth and put everything in place. He made the world to be lived in, not to be a place of empty chaos.“ I am the Lord,” he says,“ and there is no other.

But the Lord made the earth by his power, and he preserves it by his wisdom. With his own understanding he stretched out the heavens.

God, the Lord, created the heavens and stretched them out. He created the earth and everything in it. He gives breath to everyone, life to everyone who walks the earth. And it is he who says,

Give thanks to him who made the heavens so skillfully. His faithful love endures forever.Give thanks to him who placed the earth among the waters. “ You alone are the Lord. You made the skies and the heavens and all the stars. You made the earth and the seas and everything in them. You preserve them all, and the angels of heaven worship you.

I am the one who made the earth and created people to live on it. With my hands I stretched out the heavens. All the stars are at my command.

Praise the Lord, the God of Israel, who made the heavens and the earth! He has given King David a wise son, gifted with skill and understanding, who will build a Temple for the Lord and a royal palace for himself.

“ Look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth, and no one will even think about the old ones anymore.

Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing.O Jacob, how can you say the Lord does not see your troubles? When they heard the report, all the believers lifted their voices together in prayer to God:“ O Sovereign Lord, Creator of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them—

The heavens are yours, and the earth is yours; everything in the world is yours— you created it all.You created north and south. Mount Tabor and Mount Hermon praise your name.Powerful is your arm! Strong is your hand! Your right hand is lifted high in glorious strength.

For when he spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command.

God called the dry ground“ land” and the waters“ seas.” And God saw that it was good.

It was my hand that laid the foundations of the earth, my right hand that spread out the heavens above. When I call out the stars, they all appear in order.”

This is the account of the creation of the heavens and the earth. When the Lord God made the earth and the heavens,

But the God of Israel is no idol! He is the Creator of everything that exists, including Israel, his own special possession. The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is his name!

And when you look up into the sky and see the sun, moon, and stars— all the forces of heaven— don’t be seduced into worshiping them. The Lord your God gave them to all the peoples of the earth.

He rebuilt the pagan shrines his father, Hezekiah, had destroyed. He constructed altars for Baal and set up an Asherah pole, just as King Ahab of Israel had done. He also bowed before all the powers of the heavens and worshiped them.He built pagan altars in the Temple of the Lord, the place where the Lord had said,“ My name will remain in Jerusalem forever.”He built these altars for all the powers of the heavens in both courtyards of the Lord’s Temple.

For instance, they might serve other gods or worship the sun, the moon, or any of the stars— the forces of heaven— which I have strictly forbidden.

For they all know that my disaster has come from the hand of the Lord.

They will spread out their bones on the ground before the sun, moon, and stars— the gods my people have loved, served, and worshiped. Their bones will not be gathered up again or buried but will be scattered on the ground like manure.

For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

The heavens above will melt away and disappear like a rolled up scroll. The stars will fall from the sky like withered leaves from a grapevine, or shriveled figs from a fig tree.

Then God turned away from them and abandoned them to serve the stars of heaven as their gods! In the book of the prophets it is written,‘ Was it to me you were bringing sacrifices and offerings during those forty years in the wilderness, Israel?

Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others— the armies of heaven— praising God and saying,

You are dressed in a robe of light. You stretch out the starry curtain of the heavens;
