Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth and no plant had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground,

At that time, bushes had not yet appeared on the earth. Plants had not started to grow. The Lord God had not sent rain on the earth. And there was no one to farm the land.

When no bush of the field was yet in the land and no small plant of the field had yet sprung up— for the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the land, and there was no man to work the ground,

Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. (niv)

When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth.” (niv)

He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate— bringing forth food from the earth: (niv)

that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. (niv)

Do any of the worthless idols of the nations bring rain? Do the skies themselves send down showers? No, it is you, Lord our God. Therefore our hope is in you, for you are the one who does all this. (niv)

to water a land where no one lives, an uninhabited desert,to satisfy a desolate wasteland and make it sprout with grass?Does the rain have a father? Who fathers the drops of dew? (niv)

He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth; he sends lightning with the rain and brings out the wind from his storehouses. (niv)

He provides rain for the earth; he sends water on the countryside. (niv)

You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly. The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with grain, for so you have ordained it.You drench its furrows and level its ridges; you soften it with showers and bless its crops.You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance. (niv)
