Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth and no plant had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground,

At that time, bushes had not yet appeared on the earth. Plants had not started to grow. The Lord God had not sent rain on the earth. And there was no one to farm the land.

When no bush of the field was yet in the land and no small plant of the field had yet sprung up— for the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the land, and there was no man to work the ground,

neither wild plants nor grains were growing on the earth. For the Lord God had not yet sent rain to water the earth, and there were no people to cultivate the soil.

耶和華神就把他趕出伊甸園，去耕種他自己也是從那裡出來的地土。

她又生了該隱的弟弟亞伯。亞伯是牧羊的，該隱是種地的。

神說：“地上要長出青草、結種子的蔬菜和結果子的樹木，各從其類，在地上的果子都包著核！”事就這樣成了。於是，地上長出了青草和結種子的蔬菜，各從其類；又長出結果子的樹木，各從其類，果子都包著核。神看這是好的。

這就像一塊地，吸收了常常下在它上面的雨水，如果長出對種植的人有用的菜蔬，就從神那裡得福。

你種地，地也不再給你效力；你必在地上流離失所。”

你為了牲畜使青草滋生，為了人的需用使蔬菜生長，使糧食從地裡生出；

好叫你們成為你們天父的兒子；因為他使太陽照惡人，也照好人；降雨給義人，也給不義的人。

列國虛無的偶像中，有可以降雨的嗎？天能自降甘霖嗎？耶和華我們的神啊！能夠這樣作的，不是只有你嗎？所以我們仰望你，因為這一切都是你所作的。

使雨降在無人之地，落在無人居住的曠野，使荒廢之地得著滋潤，使青草在乾旱之地得以長起來呢？雨有父親嗎？露珠是誰生的呢？

他使雲霧從地極上升，發出閃電隨雨而來，又從他的府庫吹出風來。

降雨在地上，遣水到田裡，

你眷顧大地，普降甘霖，使地甚為肥沃；神的河滿了水，好為人預備五穀；你就這樣預備了大地。你灌溉地的犁溝，潤平犁脊，又降雨露使地鬆軟，並且賜福給地上所生長的。你以恩典為年歲的冠冕，你的路徑都滴下脂油，
