因着信，亚伯拉罕被考验的时候把以撒献上，这就是那领受了应许的人甘心把自己独生的儿子献上。论到这儿子，神曾说：“从以撒生的才要称为你的后裔。”他认为神甚至能使人从死人中复活，意味着他得回了他的儿子。

我们的祖宗亚伯拉罕把他儿子以撒献在坛上，岂不是因行为得称义吗？可见信心是与他的行为相辅并行，而且信心是因着行为才得以成全的。这正应验了经上所说：“亚伯拉罕信了神，这就算他为义”；他又得称为神的朋友。

我们都如羊走迷，各人偏行己路；耶和华使我们众人的罪孽都归在他身上。他被欺压受苦，却不开口；他像羔羊被牵去宰杀，又像羊在剪毛的人手下无声，他也是这样不开口。因受欺压和审判，他被夺去，谁能想到他的世代呢？因为他从活人之地被剪除，为我百姓的罪过他被带到死里。他虽然未行残暴，口中也没有诡诈，人还使他与恶人同穴，与财主同墓。耶和华的旨意要压伤他，使他受苦。当他的生命作为赎罪祭时，他必看见后裔，他的年日必然长久。耶和华所喜悦的事，必在他手中亨通。因自己的劳苦，他必看见光就心满意足。因自己的认识，我的义仆使许多人得称为义，他要担当他们的罪孽。因此，我要使他与位大的同份，与强盛的均分掳物。因为他倾倒自己的生命，以至于死，也列在罪犯之中。他却担当多人的罪，为他们的过犯代求。
