Then God said to Jacob,“ Go up to Bethel and settle there, and build an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.”

Then God said to Jacob,“ Go up to Bethel and live there. Build an altar there to honor me. That’s where I appeared to you when you were running away from your brother Esau.”

God said to Jacob,“ Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there. Make an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.”

Then God said to Jacob,“ Get ready and move to Bethel and settle there. Build an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother, Esau.”

God said to Jacob,“ Get up! Go to Bethel and settle there. Build an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.”

Then God said to Jacob,“ Arise, go up to Bethel and live there, and make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.”

And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Beth- el, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, who appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.

God said to Jacob,“ Get up! Go to Bethel and settle there. Build an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.”

And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.

Then God said to Jacob,“ Go up at once to Bethel and live there. Make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.”

The Lord will vindicate his people and relent concerning his servants when he sees their strength is gone and no one is left, slave or free. (niv)

He struggled with the angel and overcame him; he wept and begged for his favor. He found him at Bethel and talked with him there— (niv)

He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. (niv)

I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar and where you made a vow to me. Now leave this land at once and go back to your native land.’” (niv)

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. (niv)

From the Negev he went from place to place until he came to Bethel, to the place between Bethel and Ai where his tent had been earlierand where he had first built an altar. There Abram called on the name of the Lord. (niv)

Esau held a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing his father had given him. He said to himself,“ The days of mourning for my father are near; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”When Rebekah was told what her older son Esau had said, she sent for her younger son Jacob and said to him,“ Your brother Esau is planning to avenge himself by killing you.Now then, my son, do what I say: Flee at once to my brother Laban in Harran.Stay with him for a while until your brother’s fury subsides.When your brother is no longer angry with you and forgets what you did to him, I’ll send word for you to come back from there. Why should I lose both of you in one day?” (niv)

He chose our inheritance for us, the pride of Jacob, whom he loved. (niv)

And he said,“ Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?”“ I’m running away from my mistress Sarai,” she answered. (niv)

There he built an altar, and he called the place El Bethel, because it was there that God revealed himself to him when he was fleeing from his brother. (niv)

From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord. (niv)

Then the Lord said to Jacob,“ Go back to the land of your fathers and to your relatives, and I will be with you.” (niv)

When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfill it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow.It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfill it.Do not let your mouth lead you into sin. And do not protest to the temple messenger,“ My vow was a mistake.” Why should God be angry at what you say and destroy the work of your hands? (niv)

So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said,“ On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.” (niv)

When Pharaoh heard of this, he tried to kill Moses, but Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in Midian, where he sat down by a well. (niv)

Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Harran.When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep.He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.There above it stood the Lord, and he said:“ I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying.Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought,“ Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.”He was afraid and said,“ How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.”Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it.He called that place Bethel, though the city used to be called Luz.Then Jacob made a vow, saying,“ If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wearso that I return safely to my father’s household, then the Lord will be my Godand this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth.” (niv)

Look, there on the mountains, the feet of one who brings good news, who proclaims peace! Celebrate your festivals, Judah, and fulfill your vows. No more will the wicked invade you; they will be completely destroyed. (niv)
