Jacob came to Isaac his father, to Mamre, to Kiriath Arba( which is Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac lived as foreigners.

Jacob came home to his father Isaac in Mamre, near Kiriath Arba( that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had stayed.

After this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre( that is, Hebron), in the land of Canaan.

Yahweh appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day.

Sarah died in Kiriath Arba( also called Hebron), in the land of Canaan. Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.

He gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh a portion among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of Yahweh to Joshua, even Kiriath Arba, named after the father of Anak( also called Hebron).

In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months; and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty- three years over all Israel and Judah.

Now therefore, my son, obey my voice. Arise, flee to Laban, my brother, in Haran.Stay with him a few days, until your brother’s fury turns away—until your brother’s anger turns away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him. Then I will send, and get you from there. Why should I be bereaved of you both in one day?”

One who had escaped came and told Abram, the Hebrew. At that time, he lived by the oaks of Mamre, the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner. They were allies of Abram.

So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron, and king David made a covenant with them in Hebron before Yahweh; and they anointed David king over Israel.

They gave them Kiriath Arba, named after the father of Anak( also called Hebron), in the hill country of Judah, with its pasture lands around it.

Isaac sent Jacob away. He went to Paddan Aram to Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother.

Now therefore give me this hill country, of which Yahweh spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and great and fortified cities. It may be that Yahweh will be with me, and I shall drive them out, as Yahweh said.”Joshua blessed him; and he gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he followed Yahweh, the God of Israel wholeheartedly.Now the name of Hebron before was Kiriath Arba, after the greatest man among the Anakim. Then the land had rest from war.

After this, David inquired of Yahweh, saying,“ Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah?” Yahweh said to him,“ Go up.” David said,“ Where shall I go up?” He said,“ To Hebron.”

Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron, and spoke, saying,“ Behold, we are your bone and your flesh.

David brought up his men who were with him, every man with his household. They lived in the cities of Hebron.

The time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.
