When Joseph reached his brothers, they stripped him of his tunic, the special tunic that he wore.

So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe— the ornate robe he was wearing—

Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his sons because he was a son born to him late in life, and he made a special tunic for him.

They said to one other,“ Surely we’re being punished because of our brother, because we saw how distressed he was when he cried to us for mercy, but we refused to listen. That is why this distress has come on us!”

So they took Joseph’s tunic, killed a young goat, and dipped the tunic in the blood.Then they brought the special tunic to their father and said,“ We found this. Determine now whether it is your son’s tunic or not.”He recognized it and exclaimed,“ It is my son’s tunic! A wild animal has eaten him! Joseph has surely been torn to pieces!”

They stripped him and put a scarlet robe around him,

They are dividing up my clothes among themselves; they are rolling dice for my garments.
