弓箭手惡意攻擊他，敵對他，向他射箭。

惟獨那恨弟兄的，是在黑暗裏，也在黑暗裏行走，不知道往哪裏去，因為黑暗使他的眼睛瞎了。

我們從前也是無知、悖逆、受迷惑，作各樣私慾和宴樂的奴隸，在惡毒、嫉妒中度日，是可恨的，而且彼此相恨。

無故恨我的，比我的頭髮還多；無理與我為仇、要把我剪除的，甚為強盛。我沒有搶奪，他們竟然要我償還！

卻看不中該隱和他的供物。該隱就非常生氣，沉下臉來。

他的哥哥們都嫉妒他，他父親卻把這事存在心裏。

耶西就派人去叫他來。他面色紅潤，雙目清秀，容貌俊美。耶和華說：「起來，膏他，因為這就是他了。」撒母耳就用角裏的膏油，在他的兄長中膏了他。從這日起，耶和華的靈就大大感動大衛。撒母耳起身回拉瑪去了。

「世人若恨你們，你們要知道，他們在恨你們以前已經恨我了。你們若屬世界，世界會愛屬自己的；只因你們不屬世界，而是我從世界中揀選了你們，所以世界就恨你們。

但我的仇敵又活潑又強壯，無理恨我的增多了。

約瑟做了一個夢，告訴他哥哥們，他們就更加恨他。

耶穌的兄弟們對他說：「你離開這裏上猶太去吧，好讓你的門徒也看見你所做的事。因為人要揚名，沒有在隱祕的地方行事的，如果你要做這些事，該把自己顯明給世人看。」原來連他的兄弟們也不信他。

他們遠遠看見他，趁他還沒有走近他們，就圖謀要殺死他。他們彼此說：「看哪！那做夢的來了。現在，來吧！我們把他殺了，丟在一個坑裏，就說有惡獸把他吃了。我們且看他的夢將來怎麼樣。」呂便聽見了，要救約瑟脫離他們的手，說：「我們不可害他的性命。」呂便又對他們說：「不可流他的血，可以把他丟在這曠野的坑裏，不可下手害他。」呂便要救他脫離他們的手，把他還給他父親。約瑟到了他哥哥們那裏，他們就剝去他的外衣，就是他身上那件長袍。他們抓住他，把他丟在坑裏。那坑是空的，裏頭沒有水。
