I was forcibly carried off from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing to deserve being put in a dungeon.”

I was taken away from the land of the Hebrews by force. Even here I haven’t done anything to be put in prison for.”

For I was indeed stolen out of the land of the Hebrews, and here also I have done nothing that they should put me into the pit.”

So he took Joseph and threw him into the prison where the king’s prisoners were held, and there he remained.

There was a young Hebrew man with us in the prison who was a slave of the captain of the guard. We told him our dreams, and he told us what each of our dreams meant.

Look, my father, at what I have in my hand. It is a piece of the hem of your robe! I cut it off, but I didn’t kill you. This proves that I am not trying to harm you and that I have not sinned against you, even though you have been hunting for me to kill me.

Remember, it is better to suffer for doing good, if that is what God wants, than to suffer for doing wrong!Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit.

But Paul replied,“ No! This is the official Roman court, so I ought to be tried right here. You know very well I am not guilty of harming the Jews.If I have done something worthy of death, I don’t refuse to die. But if I am innocent, no one has a right to turn me over to these men to kill me. I appeal to Caesar!”

But Joseph refused.“ Look,” he told her,“ my master trusts me with everything in his entire household.No one here has more authority than I do. He has held back nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How could I do such a wicked thing? It would be a great sin against God.”She kept putting pressure on Joseph day after day, but he refused to sleep with her, and he kept out of her way as much as possible.One day, however, no one else was around when he went in to do his work.She came and grabbed him by his cloak, demanding,“ Come on, sleep with me!” Joseph tore himself away, but he left his cloak in her hand as he ran from the house.

They have set an ambush for me. Fierce enemies are out there waiting, Lord, though I have not sinned or offended them.I have done nothing wrong, yet they prepare to attack me. Wake up! See what is happening and help me!

But one of Lot’s men escaped and reported everything to Abram the Hebrew, who was living near the oak grove belonging to Mamre the Amorite. Mamre and his relatives, Eshcol and Aner, were Abram’s allies.

“ Kidnappers must be put to death, whether they are caught in possession of their victims or have already sold them as slaves.

Judah said to his brothers,“ What will we gain by killing our brother? We’d have to cover up the crime.Instead of hurting him, let’s sell him to those Ishmaelite traders. After all, he is our brother— our own flesh and blood!” And his brothers agreed.So when the Ishmaelites, who were Midianite traders, came by, Joseph’s brothers pulled him out of the cistern and sold him to them for twenty pieces of silver. And the traders took him to Egypt.

The law is for people who are sexually immoral, or who practice homosexuality, or are slave traders, liars, promise breakers, or who do anything else that contradicts the wholesome teaching

My accusers never found me arguing with anyone in the Temple, nor stirring up a riot in any synagogue or on the streets of the city.These men cannot prove the things they accuse me of doing.“ But I admit that I follow the Way, which they call a cult. I worship the God of our ancestors, and I firmly believe the Jewish law and everything written in the prophets.I have the same hope in God that these men have, that he will raise both the righteous and the unrighteous.Because of this, I always try to maintain a clear conscience before God and all people.“ After several years away, I returned to Jerusalem with money to aid my people and to offer sacrifices to God.My accusers saw me in the Temple as I was completing a purification ceremony. There was no crowd around me and no rioting.But some Jews from the province of Asia were there— and they ought to be here to bring charges if they have anything against me!Ask these men here what crime the Jewish high council found me guilty of,except for the one time I shouted out,‘ I am on trial before you today because I believe in the resurrection of the dead!’”

Jesus said,“ At my Father’s direction I have done many good works. For which one are you going to stone me?”

“ If anyone kidnaps a fellow Israelite and treats him as a slave or sells him, the kidnapper must die. In this way, you will purge the evil from among you.

My God sent his angel to shut the lions’ mouths so that they would not hurt me, for I have been found innocent in his sight. And I have not wronged you, Your Majesty.”

This fulfills what is written in their Scriptures:‘ They hated me without cause.’
