Now a young Hebrew was there with us, a servant of the captain of the guard. We told him our dreams, and he interpreted them for us, giving each man the interpretation of his dream.

約瑟對他說：「夢的解釋是這樣：三根枝子就是三天；三天之內，法老要讓你抬起頭來，叫你官復原職。你仍要遞杯在法老的手中，像先前作他的司酒長一樣。但你得福的時候，請你記得我，向我施慈愛，在法老面前提起我，救我出這監牢。我實在是從希伯來人之地被拐來的，我在這裏也沒有做過甚麼，好叫他們把我關在牢裏。」司膳長見夢解得好，就對約瑟說：「在我夢中，看哪，我頭上頂着三個裝餅的籃子；最上面的籃子裏有為法老烤的各樣食物，有飛鳥來吃我頭上籃子裏的食物。」約瑟說：「夢的解釋是這樣：三個籃子就是三天；三天之內，法老要讓你抬起頭來，身首異處，把你掛在木架上，必有飛鳥來吃你身上的肉。」

米甸人把約瑟賣到埃及，給法老的官員，就是護衛長波提乏。

約瑟的主人把他抓起來，關在監獄裏，就是王的囚犯被關的地方。於是約瑟在那裏坐牢。

約瑟被帶下埃及去。有一個埃及人波提乏，是法老的官員，是護衛長，他從那些帶約瑟下來的以實瑪利人手中把約瑟買了去。
