我說這話，並不是命令你們，而是藉着別人的熱忱來考驗你們愛心的真誠。

再把你們最小的弟弟帶到我這裏來。如此，你們的話就是真的了，你們也不至於死。」他們就照樣做了。

你不可聽那先知或是那做夢之人的話，因為這是耶和華－你們的神考驗你們，要知道你們是否盡心盡性愛耶和華－你們的神。

我指着法老的性命起誓，若是你們最小的弟弟不到這裏來，你們就不可以離開這裏；這樣你們就可以證實自己了。要派你們當中的一個人去，把你們的弟弟帶來。至於你們，都要關在這裏，好證實你們的話是不是真的。若不是，我指着法老的性命起誓，你們一定是奸細。」

他們為約瑟單獨擺了一席，為那些人又擺了一席，也為和約瑟同吃飯的埃及人另擺了一席，因為埃及人不和希伯來人一同吃飯；那是埃及人所厭惡的。

「看哪！我差你們出去，如同羊進入狼羣，所以你們要機警如蛇，純真如鴿。

又在曠野將你列祖所不認識的嗎哪賜給你吃，為要磨煉你，考驗你，終久使你享福。

你要記得，這四十年耶和華－你的神在曠野一路引導你，是要磨煉你，考驗你，為要知道你的心如何，是否願意遵守他的誡命。
