Genesis 41:50-52
Now before the year of famine came, two sons were born to Joseph, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bore to him.Joseph named the firstborn Manasseh;“ For,” he said,“ God has made me forget all my trouble and all of my father’s household.”And he named the second Ephraim;“ For,” he said,“ God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.”

Now the sons of the half tribe of Manasseh lived in the land; from Bashan to Baal hermon, Senir, and Mount Hermon they were numerous.These were the heads of their fathers’ households: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, valiant mighty men, famous men, heads of their fathers’ households.But they were untrue to the God of their fathers and prostituted themselves with the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them.So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul, king of Assyria, that is, the spirit of Tilgath pilneser king of Assyria, and he took them into exile, namely the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, and brought them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and to the river of Gozan, where they are to this day.

In these regions lived the sons of Joseph the son of Israel.

Of Joseph he said,“ Blessed of the Lord be his land, With the choice things of heaven, with the dew, And from the deep waters lying beneath,And with the choice yield of the sun, And the choice produce of the months;And with the best things of the ancient mountains, With the choice things of the everlasting hills,And with the choice things of the earth and its fullness, And the favor of Him who dwelt in the bush. Let it come to the head of Joseph, And to the top of the head of the one who was prince among his brothers.As the firstborn of his ox, majesty is his, And his horns are the horns of the wild ox; With them he will gore the peoples All at once, to the ends of the earth. And those are the ten thousands of Ephraim, And those are the thousands of Manasseh.”
