謂木曰寤、謂啞石曰起、其人禍哉、此物豈能垂訓乎、彼飾以金銀、而中無生氣、

木石不能言、有求其起而庇佑者、禍必不遠、維彼偶像、雖飾金銀、不通呼吸、焉能有應、

呼木偶曰、醒歟、呼不能言之石像曰、起歟、斯人禍矣、偶像豈能應應或作垂訓乎、俱飾以金銀者、其中無生氣、其中無生氣或作不通呼吸

Woe to him who says to wood,‘ Come to life!’ Or to lifeless stone,‘ Wake up!’ Can it give guidance? It is covered with gold and silver; there is no breath in it.”

How terrible it will be for the Babylonians! They say to a wooden god,‘ Come to life!’ They say to a stone god,‘ Wake up!’ Can those gods give advice? They are covered with gold and silver. They can’t even breathe.”

Woe to him who says to a wooden thing, Awake; to a silent stone, Arise! Can this teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in it.

What sorrow awaits you who say to wooden idols,‘ Wake up and save us!’ To speechless stone images you say,‘ Rise up and teach us!’ Can an idol tell you what to do? They may be overlaid with gold and silver, but they are lifeless inside.

Woe to him who says to wood: Wake up! or to mute stone: Come alive! Can it teach? Look! It may be plated with gold and silver, yet there is no breath in it at all.

Woe to him who says to a piece of wood,‘ Awake!’ To a mute stone,‘ Arise!’ That is your teacher? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, Yet there is no breath at all inside it.

Woe to him who says to wood,‘ Awake!’ To silent stone,‘ Arise! It shall teach!’ Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, Yet in it there is no breath at all.

They have ears, but cannot hear, nor is there breath in their mouths. (niv)

They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not totter. (niv)

Hammered silver is brought from Tarshish and gold from Uphaz. What the craftsman and goldsmith have made is then dressed in blue and purple— all made by skilled workers. (niv)

From the rest he makes a god, his idol; he bows down to it and worships. He prays to it and says,“ Save me! You are my god!” (niv)

For the time will surely come when I will punish the idols of Babylon; her whole land will be disgraced and her slain will all lie fallen within her. (niv)

You praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand. But you did not honor the God who holds in his hand your life and all your ways. Therefore I decree that the people of any nation or language who say anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego be cut into pieces and their houses be turned into piles of rubble, for no other god can save in this way.” (niv)
