If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return.

亞伯拉罕對他說：「你要謹慎，不可帶我兒子回那裏去。耶和華－天上的神曾帶領我離開父家和本族的地，對我說話，向我起誓說：『我要將這地賜給你的後裔。』他要差遣使者在你面前，你就可以從那裏為我兒子娶妻。倘若那女子不肯跟你來，我叫你起的誓就與你無關了，只是你不可帶我的兒子回到那裏去。」

那地遭遇饑荒。亞伯蘭因那地的饑荒嚴重，就下到埃及，要在那裏寄居。

又趕着他一切的牲畜和他所得的一切財物，就是他在巴旦‧亞蘭所得的，他擁有的牲畜，往迦南地他父親以撒那裏去了。

他拉帶着他兒子亞伯蘭和他孫子，哈蘭的兒子羅得，以及他的媳婦，亞伯蘭的妻子撒萊，一同出了迦勒底的吾珥，要往迦南地去；他們來到哈蘭，就住在那裏。
