法老吩咐他的眾民說：「以色列人所生的男孩，你們都要丟在河裏；一切的女孩，你們要存留她的性命。」

那時，摩西生下來，俊美非凡，在他父親家裏撫養了三個月。

那女人懷孕，生一個兒子，見他俊美，就藏了他三個月，後來不能再藏，就取了一個蒲草箱，抹上石漆和石油，將孩子放在裏頭，把箱子擱在河邊的蘆荻中。孩子的姊姊遠遠站着，要知道他究竟怎麼樣。法老的女兒來到河邊洗澡，她的使女們在河邊行走。她看見箱子在蘆荻中，就打發一個婢女拿來。她打開箱子，看見那孩子。孩子哭了，她就可憐他，說：「這是希伯來人的一個孩子。」孩子的姊姊對法老的女兒說：「我去在希伯來婦人中叫一個奶媽來，為你奶這孩子，可以不可以？」法老的女兒說：「可以。」童女就去叫了孩子的母親來。法老的女兒對她說：「你把這孩子抱去，為我奶他，我必給你工價。」婦人就抱了孩子去奶他。孩子漸長，婦人把他帶到法老的女兒那裏，就作了她的兒子。她給孩子起名叫摩西，意思說：「因我把他從水裏拉出來。」

「我的朋友，我對你們說，那殺身體以後不能再做甚麼的，不要怕他們。我要指示你們當怕的是誰：當怕那殺了以後又有權柄丟在地獄裏的。我實在告訴你們，正要怕他。

你這蟲雅各和你們以色列人，不要害怕！耶和華說：我必幫助你。你的救贖主就是以色列的聖者。

那殺身體、不能殺靈魂的，不要怕他們；惟有能把身體和靈魂都滅在地獄裏的，正要怕他。

有耶和華幫助我，我必不懼怕，人能把我怎麼樣呢？

所以我們可以放膽說：主是幫助我的，我必不懼怕；人能把我怎麼樣呢？

你不要害怕，因為我與你同在；不要驚惶，因為我是你的神。我必堅固你，我必幫助你；我必用我公義的右手扶持你。

沙得拉、米煞、亞伯尼歌對王說：「尼布甲尼撒啊，這件事我們不必回答你，即便如此，我們所事奉的神能將我們從烈火的窰中救出來。王啊，他也必救我們脫離你的手；即或不然，王啊，你當知道我們決不事奉你的神，也不敬拜你所立的金像。」

但以理知道這禁令蓋了玉璽，就到自己家裏（他樓上的窗戶開向耶路撒冷），一日三次，雙膝跪在他神面前，禱告感謝，與素常一樣。

惟有我，是安慰你們的。你是誰，竟怕那必死的人？怕那要變如草的世人？

我倚靠神，我要讚美他的話；我倚靠神，必不懼怕。血氣之輩能把我怎麼樣呢？

知道公義、將我訓誨存在心中的民，要聽我言！不要怕人的辱罵，也不要因人的毀謗驚惶。

「這百姓說同謀背叛，你們不要說同謀背叛。他們所怕的，你們不要怕，也不要畏懼。但要尊萬軍之耶和華為聖，以他為你們所當怕的，所當畏懼的。
