斯輩不見容於世、乃穴居野處、遁跡山林、

他進了一個山洞，在裡面過夜。耶和華就問他：「以利亞，你在這裡做什麽？」

大衛離開迦特，逃到亞杜蘭洞。他的兄弟和親屬知道後，都來到他那裡，

掃羅追擊非利士人回來，得知大衛在隱·基底的曠野，就率領三千以色列精兵去野羊岩附近搜索大衛和他的部下。他們來到路旁的一處羊圈，那裡有一個山洞，掃羅進去大解。大衛和他的部下就躲在洞的深處。

西弗人到基比亞見掃羅，說：「大衛正躲在曠野附近的哈基拉山中。」

沒有人關心義人的死亡，沒有人明白虔誠人的去世。其實義人去世是脫離災難。

耶洗別屠殺耶和華的眾先知時，我把一百名先知分別藏在兩個山洞裡，每洞五十人，供應他們飲食。我主沒有聽說這事嗎？

我向耶和華呼求，我高聲向祂求助，我在祂面前傾訴我的苦情，向祂述說我的患難。耶和華啊，我心力交瘁的時候，只有你知道我當走的路。敵人已在我行的路上鋪下網羅。看看我左右，無人關心我；我走投無路，無人眷顧我。耶和華啊，我向你呼求，你是我的避難所，在世上你是我的福分。求你垂聽我的呼求，因為我身陷絕境。求你救我脫離迫害我的人，因為他們太強大了。求你救我脫離牢籠，好讓我讚美你。因為你恩待我，義人必聚集在我周圍。

「現在你回家去吧，你一進城，孩子就會死。全以色列會為他哀悼，把他埋葬。耶羅波安家人中只有他將得到安葬，因為以色列的上帝耶和華在他身上看見了良善。

查明他的藏身之處，回來如實告訴我，然後我會與你們同去。如果他在猶大境內，我要搜遍千家萬戶，找到他。」

約西亞全心、全意、全力歸向耶和華，遵行摩西的一切律法，在猶大列王中空前絕後。然而，瑪拿西所行的一切惹怒耶和華，耶和華對猶大仍盛怒未息。耶和華說：「我要像驅逐以色列人一樣將猶大人從我面前趕走。我要撇棄我所揀選的耶路撒冷和我名常在的殿。」約西亞其他的事及作為都記在猶大的列王史上。約西亞執政期間，埃及王尼哥前往幼發拉底河援助亞述王，約西亞出兵迎戰尼哥，在米吉多被殺。

西弗人去基比亞見掃羅，說：「大衛就躲在我們那裡，在曠野南面哈基拉山上何利沙的堡壘裡。

「你離開這裡，往東去，到約旦河以東的基立溪旁躲起來。

大衛在西弗曠野的何利沙得知掃羅要來殺他。
