God again set a certain day, calling it“ Today.” This he did when a long time later he spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted:“ Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.”

So God again chose a certain day. He named it Today. He did this when he spoke through David a long time later. Here is what was written in the Scripture already given.“ Listen to his voice today. If you hear it, don’t be stubborn.”( Psalm 95:7, 8)

So God set another time for entering his rest, and that time is today. God announced this through David much later in the words already quoted:“ Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts.”

So, as the Holy Spirit says:“ Today, if you hear his voice,do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the wilderness, (niv)

David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared:“‘ The Lord said to my Lord:“ Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.”’ (niv)

David himself declares in the Book of Psalms:“‘ The Lord said to my Lord:“ Sit at my right hand (niv)

All this took about 450 years.“ After this, God gave them judges until the time of Samuel the prophet.Then the people asked for a king, and he gave them Saul son of Kish, of the tribe of Benjamin, who ruled forty years.After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him:‘ I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’“ From this man’s descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he promised.
