上帝欲於將承所許者、益彰其旨之不易、故實之以誓、

上帝欲使將得福之人、知其旨不易、故實之以誓、

天主欲使將得所許之福者、確知其旨不易、則實之以誓、

天主之立誓、亦欲昭示承恩諾者、以其所諾乃一成不變云耳。

Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath.

So God gave his word when he made his promise. He wanted to make it very clear that his purpose does not change. He wanted those who would receive what was promised to know this.

So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath,

God also bound himself with an oath, so that those who received the promise could be perfectly sure that he would never change his mind.

Because God wanted to show his unchangeable purpose even more clearly to the heirs of the promise, he guaranteed it with an oath,

In the same way God, desiring even more to demonstrate to the heirs of the promise the fact that His purpose is unchangeable, confirmed it with an oath,

Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath,

Wherein God, being minded to show more abundantly unto the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, interposed with an oath;

Because God wanted to show His unchangeable purpose even more clearly to the heirs of the promise, He guaranteed it with an oath,

Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed[ it] by an oath:

In the same way God wanted to demonstrate more clearly to the heirs of the promise that his purpose was unchangeable, and so he intervened with an oath,

In this way God, being determined to show more abundantly to the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, interposed with an oath,

God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. (niv)

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. (niv)

But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. (niv)

The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind:“ You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” (niv)

for God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable. (niv)

Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. (niv)

Now if we are children, then we are heirs— heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. (niv)

We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised. (niv)

People swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument. (niv)

They answered,“ We saw clearly that the Lord was with you; so we said,‘ There ought to be a sworn agreement between us’— between us and you. Let us make a treaty with you (niv)

By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith. (niv)

“ This is what the Lord says:‘ If you can break my covenant with the day and my covenant with the night, so that day and night no longer come at their appointed time,then my covenant with David my servant— and my covenant with the Levites who are priests ministering before me— can be broken and David will no longer have a descendant to reign on his throne. the issue between them will be settled by the taking of an oath before the Lord that the neighbor did not lay hands on the other person’s property. The owner is to accept this, and no restitution is required. (niv)

Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? (niv)
