馬豈能在巖石上奔跑？人豈能在那裏用牛耕種呢？你們卻使公平變為苦膽，使公義的果子變為茵蔯。

又從以色列王室後裔中選取一人，與他立約，令他發誓，又擄走國中有勢力的人，使王國衰弱，不再強盛，只能靠守盟約方得生存。他卻背叛巴比倫王，差派使者前往埃及，要求埃及人給他馬匹和許多人。他豈能亨通呢？這樣做的人豈能逃脫呢？他背了約豈能逃脫呢？主耶和華說：我指着我的永生起誓，他定要死在巴比倫，就是巴比倫王所在之處；因為巴比倫王立他為王，他竟輕看向王所起的誓，背棄王與他所立的約。當敵人建土堆，築堡壘，要殲滅許多人時，法老雖有強大軍隊和大批人馬，在戰場上還是不能幫助他。他輕看誓言，背棄盟約，看哪，雖已投降，卻又做這一切的事，他必不能逃脫。所以主耶和華如此說：我指着我的永生起誓，他既輕看我的誓言，背棄我的約，我必使這罪歸到他頭上。

亞述王撒縵以色上來攻擊何細亞，何細亞就服事他，向他進貢。何細亞背叛，派使者到埃及王梭那裏，不照往年所行的向亞述王進貢。亞述王知道了，就逮捕他，把他囚在監裏。

他們卻如亞當背約，在那裏向我行詭詐。

沒有親情，抗拒和解，好說讒言，不能節制，性情兇暴，不愛良善，

頑梗不化的、言而無信的、無情無義的、不憐憫人的。

惟恐你們中間有人，或男或女，或宗族或支派，今日心裏偏離耶和華－我們的上帝，去事奉那些國的神明，又怕你們中間有根長出苦菜和茵蔯來。

就是悖逆，否認耶和華，轉去不跟從我們的上帝，口說欺壓和叛逆的話，心懷謊言，隨即說出；公平轉而退後，公義站在遠處，誠實仆倒在廣場上，正直不得進入；誠實少見，離棄邪惡的人反成掠物。那時，耶和華見沒有公平，就不喜悅。

第三位天使吹號，就有燒着的大星好像火把從天上墜下來，落在江河的三分之一和眾水的泉源上。這星名叫「苦艾」；眾水的三分之一變為苦艾，許多人因水變苦而死了。

萬軍之耶和華的葡萄園就是以色列家；他所喜愛的樹就是猶大人。他指望公平，看哪，卻有流血；指望公義，看哪，卻有冤聲。

我看出你正在苦膽之中，被不義捆綁着。」
