For the kingdom of God does not consist of food and drink, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.

For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God through faith.For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

They were singing a new song:“ You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals because you were killed, and at the cost of your own blood you have purchased for God persons from every tribe, language, people, and nation.You have appointed them as a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.”

For we too were once foolish, disobedient, misled, enslaved to various passions and desires, spending our lives in evil and envy, hateful and hating one another.But“ when the kindness of God our Savior and his love for mankind appeared,he saved us not by works of righteousness that we have done but on the basis of his mercy, through the washing of the new birth and the renewing of the Holy Spirit,

for you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.When Christ( who is your life) appears, then you too will be revealed in glory with him.So put to deat h whatever in your nature belongs to the earth: sexual immorality, impurity, shameful passion, evil desire, and greed which is idolatry.Because of these things the wrath of God is coming on the sons of disobedience.You also lived your lives in this way at one time, when you used to live among them.But now, put off all such things as anger, rage, malice, slander, abusive language from your mouth.

You were taught with reference to your former way of life to lay aside the old man who is being corrupted in accordance with deceitful desires,to be renewed in the spirit of your mind,and to put on the new man who has been created in God’s image– in righteousness and holiness that comes from truth.Therefore, having laid aside falsehood, each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members of one another.Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on the cause of your anger.Do not give the devil an opportunity.The one who steals must steal no longer; rather he must labor, doing good with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with the one who has need.You must let no unwholesome word come out of your mouth, but only what is beneficial for the building up of the one in need, that it may give grace to those who hear.And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.You must put away every kind of bitterness, anger, wrath, quarreling, and evil, slanderous talk.Instead, be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you.

But Ananias replied,“ Lord, I have heard from many people about this man, how much harm he has done to your saints in Jerusalem,and here he has authority from the chief priests to imprison all who call on your name!”But the Lord said to him,“ Go, because this man is my chosen instrument to carry my name before Gentiles and kings and the people of Israel.For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.”So Ananias departed and entered the house, placed his hands on Saul and said,“ Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came here, has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”Immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized,and after taking some food, his strength returned. For several days he was with the disciples in Damascus,and immediately he began to proclaim Jesus in the synagogues, saying,“ This man is the Son of God.”

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! The sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, passive homosexual partners, practicing homosexuals,thieves, the greedy, drunkards, the verbally abusive, and swindlers will not inherit the kingdom of God.Some of you once lived this way. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

For the love of Christ controls us, since we have concluded this, that Christ died for all; therefore all have died.And he died for all so that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised.So then from now on we acknowledge no one from an outward human point of view. Even though we have known Christ from such a human point of view, now we do not know him in that way any longer.So then, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; what is old has passed away– look, what is new has come!And all these things are from God who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and who has given us the ministry of reconciliation.In other words, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting people’s trespasses against them, and he has given us the message of reconciliation.Therefore we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making his plea through us. We plead with you on Christ’s behalf,“ Be reconciled to God!”God made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we would become the righteousness of God.

I would rather appeal to you on the basis of love– I, Paul, an old man and even now a prisoner for the sake of Christ Jesus–I am appealing to you concerning my child, whose spiritual father I have become during my imprisonment, that is, Onesimus,who was formerly useless to you, but is now useful to you and me.I have sent him( who is my very heart) back to you.I wanted to keep him so that he could serve me in your place during my imprisonment for the sake of the gospel.However, without your consent I did not want to do anything, so that your good deed would not be out of compulsion, but from your own willingness.For perhaps it was for this reason that he was separated from you for a little while, so that you would have him back eternally,no longer as a slave, but more than a slave, as a dear brother. He is especially so to me, and even more so to you now, both humanly speaking and in the Lord.
