Listen, Ethiopia— land of fluttering sails that lies at the headwaters of the Nile,

Woe to the land of buzzing insect wings beyond the rivers of Cush,

Woe, land of whirring wings Which lies beyond the rivers of Cush,

Woe to the land shadowed with buzzing wings, Which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia,

Ah, the land of the rustling of wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia;

Woe to the land shadowing with wings, which[ is] beyond the rivers of Ethiopia:

The land of buzzing wings is as good as dead, the one beyond the rivers of Cush,

Ah, the land of the rustling of wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia;

From beyond the rivers of Cush my worshipers, my scattered people, will bring me offerings. (niv)

“ You Cushites, too, will be slain by my sword.” (niv)

Now Sennacherib received a report that Tirhakah, the king of Cush, was marching out to fight against him. So he again sent messengers to Hezekiah with this word: (niv)

A sword will come against Egypt, and anguish will come upon Cush. When the slain fall in Egypt, her wealth will be carried away and her foundations torn down.Cush and Libya, Lydia and all Arabia, Kub and the people of the covenant land will fall by the sword along with Egypt. (niv)

Then the Lord said,“ Just as my servant Isaiah has gone stripped and barefoot for three years, as a sign and portent against Egypt and Cush,so the king of Assyria will lead away stripped and barefoot the Egyptian captives and Cushite exiles, young and old, with buttocks bared— to Egypt’s shame.Those who trusted in Cush and boasted in Egypt will be dismayed and put to shame.In that day the people who live on this coast will say,‘ See what has happened to those we relied on, those we fled to for help and deliverance from the king of Assyria! who go down to Egypt without consulting me; who look for help to Pharaoh’s protection, to Egypt’s shade for refuge.But Pharaoh’s protection will be to your shame, Egypt’s shade will bring you disgrace. (niv)

Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. (niv)

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who trust in the multitude of their chariots and in the great strength of their horsemen, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel, or seek help from the Lord. (niv)

Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings (niv)

“ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. (niv)

Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. (niv)

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. (niv)

How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings. (niv)

“‘ On that day messengers will go out from me in ships to frighten Cush out of her complacency. Anguish will take hold of them on the day of Egypt’s doom, for it is sure to come. (niv)

I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings. (niv)

May the Lord repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.” (niv)
