For seven years they will use them for fuel.They will not need to gather wood from the fields or cut it from the forests, because they will use the weapons for fuel. And they will plunder those who plundered them and loot those who looted them, declares the Sovereign Lord. (niv)

Is not Hamath like Arpad, and Samaria like Damascus?As my hand seized the kingdoms of the idols, kingdoms whose images excelled those of Jerusalem and Samaria—shall I not deal with Jerusalem and her images as I dealt with Samaria and her idols?’”When the Lord has finished all his work against Mount Zion and Jerusalem, he will say,“ I will punish the king of Assyria for the willful pride of his heart and the haughty look in his eyes.For he says:“‘ By the strength of my hand I have done this, and by my wisdom, because I have understanding. I removed the boundaries of nations, I plundered their treasures; like a mighty one I subdued their kings.As one reaches into a nest, so my hand reached for the wealth of the nations; as people gather abandoned eggs, so I gathered all the countries; not one flapped a wing, or opened its mouth to chirp.’”Does the ax raise itself above the person who swings it, or the saw boast against the one who uses it? As if a rod were to wield the person who lifts it up, or a club brandish the one who is not wood! (niv)

“ He gave me this explanation:‘ The fourth beast is a fourth kingdom that will appear on earth. It will be different from all the other kingdoms and will devour the whole earth, trampling it down and crushing it.The ten horns are ten kings who will come from this kingdom. After them another king will arise, different from the earlier ones; he will subdue three kings.He will speak against the Most High and oppress his holy people and try to change the set times and the laws. The holy people will be delivered into his hands for a time, times and half a time.“‘ But the court will sit, and his power will be taken away and completely destroyed forever.Then the sovereignty, power and greatness of all the kingdoms under heaven will be handed over to the holy people of the Most High. His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, and all rulers will worship and obey him.’ (niv)

Jonah had gone out and sat down at a place east of the city. There he made himself a shelter, sat in its shade and waited to see what would happen to the city.Then the Lord God provided a leafy plant and made it grow up over Jonah to give shade for his head to ease his discomfort, and Jonah was very happy about the plant. Woe to the many nations that rage— they rage like the raging sea! Turn your steps toward these everlasting ruins, all this destruction the enemy has brought on the sanctuary.Your foes roared in the place where you met with us; they set up their standards as signs.They behaved like men wielding axes to cut through a thicket of trees.They smashed all the carved paneling with their axes and hatchets.They burned your sanctuary to the ground; they defiled the dwelling place of your Name.They said in their hearts,“ We will crush them completely!” They burned every place where God was worshiped in the land.We are given no signs from God; no prophets are left, and none of us knows how long this will be.How long will the enemy mock you, God? Will the foe revile your name forever?Why do you hold back your hand, your right hand? Take it from the folds of your garment and destroy them!But God is my King from long ago; he brings salvation on the earth.It was you who split open the sea by your power; you broke the heads of the monster in the waters.It was you who crushed the heads of Leviathan and gave it as food to the creatures of the desert.It was you who opened up springs and streams; you dried up the ever- flowing rivers.The day is yours, and yours also the night; you established the sun and moon.It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter.Remember how the enemy has mocked you, Lord, how foolish people have reviled your name.Do not hand over the life of your dove to wild beasts; do not forget the lives of your afflicted people forever.Have regard for your covenant, because haunts of violence fill the dark places of the land.Do not let the oppressed retreat in disgrace; may the poor and needy praise your name.Rise up, O God, and defend your cause; remember how fools mock you all day long.Do not ignore the clamor of your adversaries, the uproar of your enemies, which rises continually.
