But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, descendant of Abraham, my friend—

昔我眷顧亞伯拉罕、簡其後裔、以色列族雅各家、為我臣僕。

惟爾以色列我之僕、我所選之雅各、我所眷愛亞伯拉罕之苗裔、

“ But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, you descendants of Abraham my friend,

The Lord says,“ People of Israel, you are my servants. Family of Jacob, I have chosen you. You are the children of my friend Abraham.

But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham, my friend;

“ But as for you, Israel my servant, Jacob my chosen one, descended from Abraham my friend,

“ But you, Israel, My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, Descendant of Abraham My friend,

“ But you, Israel, are My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, The descendants of Abraham My friend.

But thou, Israel, my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend,

But you, Israel, My servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, descendant of Abraham, My friend—

But thou, Israel,[ art] my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend.

“ You, my servant Israel, Jacob whom I have chosen, offspring of Abraham my friend,

“ But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham my friend,

and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness, and he was called God’s friend.

for you are a holy people belonging to the LORD your God. The LORD has chosen you to be his own possession out of all the peoples on the face of the earth.

Are you not our God who drove out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel and who gave it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend?

Remember these things, Jacob, and Israel, for you are my servant; I formed you, you are my servant; Israel, you will never be forgotten by me.

Therefore, the LORD who redeemed Abraham says this about the house of Jacob: Jacob will no longer be ashamed, and his face will no longer be pale.

For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by a slave and the other by a free woman.But the one by the slave was born as a result of the flesh, while the one by the free woman was born through promise.These things are being taken figuratively, for the women represent two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai and bears children into slavery— this is Hagar.Now Hagar represents Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children.But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother.For it is written, Rejoice, childless woman, unable to give birth. Burst into song and shout, you who are not in labor, for the children of the desolate woman will be many, more numerous than those of the woman who has a husband.Now you too, brothers and sisters, like Isaac, are children of promise.But just as then the child born as a result of the flesh persecuted the one born as a result of the Spirit, so also now.But what does the Scripture say?“ Drive out the slave and her son, for the son of the slave will never be a coheir with the son of the free woman.”Therefore, brothers and sisters, we are not children of a slave but of the free woman.

“ And now listen, Jacob my servant, Israel whom I have chosen.This is the word of the LORD your Maker, the one who formed you from the womb: He will help you. Do not fear, Jacob my servant, Jeshurun whom I have chosen.

Happy is the nation whose God is the LORD— the people he has chosen to be his own possession!

Now if you will carefully listen to me and keep my covenant, you will be my own possession out of all the peoples, although the whole earth is mine,and you will be my kingdom of priests and my holy nation.’ These are the words that you are to say to the Israelites.”

Look to Abraham your father, and to Sarah who gave birth to you. When I called him, he was only one; I blessed him and made him many.

You are my friends if you do what I command you.I do not call you servants anymore, because a servant doesn’t know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have heard from my Father.

“ We are descendants of Abraham,” they answered him,“ and we have never been enslaved to anyone. How can you say,‘ You will become free’?”Jesus responded,“ Truly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin.A slave does not remain in the household forever, but a son does remain forever.So if the Son sets you free, you really will be free.I know you are descendants of Abraham, but you are trying to kill me because my word has no place among you.I speak what I have seen in the presence of the Father; so then, you do what you have heard from your father.”“ Our father is Abraham,” they replied.“ If you were Abraham’s children,” Jesus told them,“ you would do what Abraham did.But now you are trying to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do this.You’re doing what your father does.”“ We weren’t born of sexual immorality,” they said.“ We have one Father— God.”Jesus said to them,“ If God were your Father, you would love me, because I came from God and I am here. For I didn’t come on my own, but he sent me.Why don’t you understand what I say? Because you cannot listen to my word.You are of your father the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of lies.

And don’t presume to say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones.

Now this is what the LORD says— the one who created you, Jacob, and the one who formed you, Israel—“ Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are mine.

For the LORD has chosen Jacob for himself, Israel as his treasured possession.

“ Have you not noticed what these people have said? They say,‘ The LORD has rejected the two families he had chosen.’ My people are treated with contempt and no longer regarded as a nation among them.

Yet you are our Father, even though Abraham does not know us and Israel doesn’t recognize us. You, LORD, are our Father; your name is Our Redeemer from Ancient Times.

For he remembered his holy promise to Abraham his servant.He brought his people out with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy.He gave them the lands of the nations, and they inherited what other peoples had worked for.All this happened so that they might keep his statutes and obey his instructions. Hallelujah!

Yet the LORD had his heart set on your ancestors and loved them. He chose their descendants after them— he chose you out of all the peoples, as it is today.

He said to me,“ You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will be glorified.”

“ Listen to me, Jacob, and Israel, the one called by me: I am he; I am the first, I am also the last.

For you are a holy people belonging to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be his own possession out of all the peoples on the face of the earth.“ The LORD had his heart set on you and chose you, not because you were more numerous than all peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples.But because the LORD loved you and kept the oath he swore to your ancestors, he brought you out with a strong hand and redeemed you from the place of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

They are not to be sold as slaves, because they are my servants that I brought out of the land of Egypt.

you offspring of Abraham his servant, Jacob’s descendants— his chosen ones.

They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the temple service, and the promises.The ancestors are theirs, and from them, by physical descent, came the Christ, who is God over all, praised forever. Amen.Now it is not as though the word of God has failed, because not all who are descended from Israel are Israel.Neither is it the case that all of Abraham’s children are his descendants. On the contrary, your offspring will be traced through Isaac.That is, it is not the children by physical descent who are God’s children, but the children of the promise are considered to be the offspring.

Why, then, was the law given? It was added for the sake of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise was made would come. The law was put into effect through angels by means of a mediator.

And he became the father of the circumcised, who are not only circumcised but who also follow in the footsteps of the faith our father Abraham had while he was still uncircumcised.For the promise to Abraham or to his descendants that he would inherit the world was not through the law, but through the righteousness that comes by faith.
