然而，雅各啊！你並沒有呼求我。以色列啊！你竟厭煩我。

『但雅各啊，你呼求的並不是我呀！以色列啊，你厭煩的倒是我呢！

「然而，雅各啊，你卻沒有呼求我；以色列啊，你竟然厭倦了我！

惟爾雅各、不呼籲我、以色列厭我、

惟雅各家以色列族、敬恪已弛、不肯上籲、

雅各乎、爾反不籲我、以色列乎、爾反不因我而勤勞、

“ Yet you have not called on me, Jacob, you have not wearied yourselves for me, Israel.

“ Family of Jacob, you have not prayed to me as you should. People of Israel, you have not worn yourselves out for me.

“ Yet you did not call upon me, O Jacob; but you have been weary of me, O Israel!

“ But, Jacob, you have not called on me, because, Israel, you have become weary of me.

“ Yet you have not called on Me, Jacob; But you have become weary of Me, Israel.

“ But you have not called upon Me, O Jacob; And you have been weary of Me, O Israel.

Yet thou hast not called upon me, O Jacob; but thou hast been weary of me, O Israel.

“ But Jacob, you have not called on Me, because, Israel, you have become weary of Me.

But thou hast not called upon me, O Jacob; but thou hast been weary of me, O Israel.

“ But you did not call for me, O Jacob; you did not long for me, O Israel.

Yet you have not called on me, Jacob; but you have been weary of me, Israel.

“ O my people, what have I done to you? What have I done to make you tired of me? Answer me!

“ You have said,‘ What’s the use of serving God? What have we gained by obeying his commands or by trying to show the Lord of Heaven’s Armies that we are sorry for our sins?

You say,‘ It’s too hard to serve the Lord,’ and you turn up your noses at my commands,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.“ Think of it! Animals that are stolen and crippled and sick are being presented as offerings! Should I accept from you such offerings as these?” asks the Lord.

You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong— you want only what will give you pleasure.

Pour out your wrath on the nations that refuse to acknowledge you— on the peoples that do not call upon your name. For they have devoured your people Israel; they have devoured and consumed them, making the land a desolate wilderness.

Yet no one calls on your name or pleads with you for mercy. Therefore, you have turned away from us and turned us over to our sins.

Will God listen to their cry when trouble comes upon them?Can they take delight in the Almighty? Can they call to God at any time?

And yet they say to God,‘ Go away. We want no part of you and your ways.Who is the Almighty, and why should we obey him? What good will it do us to pray?’

Pour out your wrath on the nations that refuse to acknowledge you— on kingdoms that do not call upon your name.

Return, O Israel, to the Lord your God, for your sins have brought you down.Bring your confessions, and return to the Lord. Say to him,“ Forgive all our sins and graciously receive us, so that we may offer you our praises.

Has any nation ever traded its gods for new ones, even though they are not gods at all? Yet my people have exchanged their glorious God for worthless idols!The heavens are shocked at such a thing and shrink back in horror and dismay,” says the Lord.“ For my people have done two evil things: They have abandoned me— the fountain of living water. And they have dug for themselves cracked cisterns that can hold no water at all!

Will those who do evil never learn? They eat up my people like bread and wouldn’t think of praying to the Lord.

This is what the Lord says:“ What did your ancestors find wrong with me that led them to stray so far from me? They worshiped worthless idols, only to become worthless themselves.

“ O my people, listen to the words of the Lord! Have I been like a desert to Israel? Have I been to them a land of darkness? Why then do my people say,‘ At last we are free from God! We don’t need him anymore!’Does a young woman forget her jewelry, or a bride her wedding dress? Yet for years on end my people have forgotten me.

At this point many of his disciples turned away and deserted him.Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked,“ Are you also going to leave?”Simon Peter replied,“ Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life.We believe, and we know you are the Holy One of God.”

Every curse written against us in the Law of Moses has come true. Yet we have refused to seek mercy from the Lord our God by turning from our sins and recognizing his truth.

Their arrogance testifies against them, yet they don’t return to the Lord their God or even try to find him.“ The people of Israel have become like silly, witless doves, first calling to Egypt, then flying to Assyria for help.But as they fly about, I will throw my net over them and bring them down like a bird from the sky. I will punish them for all the evil they do.“ What sorrow awaits those who have deserted me! Let them die, for they have rebelled against me. I wanted to redeem them, but they have told lies about me.They do not cry out to me with sincere hearts. Instead, they sit on their couches and wail. They cut themselves, begging foreign gods for grain and new wine, and they turn away from me.
