“那时，凡种一千棵葡萄树、价值一千银子的地方，必长出荆棘和蒺藜。人到那里去，必带弓箭，因为遍地长满了荆棘和蒺藜。所有锄头刨过的山地，你因惧怕荆棘和蒺藜，不敢到那里去；只能作放牛之处，羊群践踏之地。”

迦勒底人焚烧了神的殿，拆毁耶路撒冷的城墙，用火烧了城里所有的宫殿，毁坏了城里一切宝贵的器皿。凡脱离刀剑的幸存者，迦勒底王都掳到巴比伦去，作他和他子孙的仆婢，直到波斯国兴起。这就应验耶和华藉耶利米的口所说的话：地得享安息；在荒凉的日子，地就守安息，直到满了七十年。

看哪，耶和华使地空虚，变为荒芜，地面扭曲，居民四散。那时，百姓如何，祭司也如何；仆人如何，主人也如何；婢女如何，主母也如何；买主如何，卖主也如何；放债的如何，借贷的也如何；债主如何，欠债的也如何。地必全然空虚，尽都荒芜，因为这话是耶和华说的。

这全地必然荒凉，令人惊骇。这些国家要服事巴比伦王七十年。

你撒种在地里，主必降雨在其上，使地所出的粮食肥美丰盛。那时，你的牲畜必在辽阔的草场吃草。

你头上的天要变成铜，下面的地要化为铁。耶和华要使那降在你地上的雨变为灰尘，尘土从天落在你身上，直到你被除灭。

城里尽是荒凉，城门全都摧毁。

外邦虚无的神明中有能降雨的吗？天能自降甘霖吗？耶和华—我们的神啊，不是你吗？我们要等候你，因为这一切都是你所造的。

我就说：“主啊，这到几时为止呢？”他说：“直到城镇荒凉，无人居住，房屋空无一人，土地极其荒芜；耶和华将人迁到远方，国内被撇弃的土地很多。

刺草和荆棘要长在我百姓的田地上，长在欢乐城中一切快乐家园上。宫殿必被撇下，繁华的城必被抛弃，堡垒和瞭望楼永为洞穴，成为野驴的乐土，羊群的草场。

因为以色列人必多日过着无君王，无领袖，无祭祀，无柱像，无以弗得，无家中神像的生活。

住在基列的提斯比人以利亚对亚哈说：“我指着所事奉永生的耶和华—以色列的神起誓，这几年我若不祷告，必不降露水，也不下雨。”

遍地都被硫磺和盐所侵蚀，不能耕种，没有出产，连草都长不出来，好像耶和华在怒气和愤怒中所倾覆的所多玛、蛾摩拉、押玛、洗扁一样，

他们要倒在刀下，又被掳到各国去。耶路撒冷要被外邦人践踏，直到外邦人的日子满了。”

上来攻击耶路撒冷的列国中所有剩下的人，要年年上来敬拜大君王—万军之耶和华，并守住棚节。地上万族中，凡不上耶路撒冷敬拜大君王—万军之耶和华的，雨必不降在他们的地上。

耶和华的话临到耶利米，论到旱灾的事：

你要这样告诉他，耶和华如此说：看哪，我所建立的，我必拆毁；我所栽植的，我必拔出；在全地我都如此行。

“在收割的前三个月，我不降雨在你们那里，我降雨在这城，不降雨在那城；这块地有雨，那块无雨的地就必枯干。

这二人有权柄关闭天空，使他们说预言的日子不下雨；又有权柄使水变为血，并且能随时随意用各样的灾害击打大地。

我要把你们驱散到列国中，也要拔刀追赶你们。你们的地要成为荒凉，你们的城镇要变成废墟。“当你们在敌人之地的时候，你们的地要在一切荒凉的日子重享安息；在那时候，地要休息，重享安息。地在一切荒凉的日子都要安息，这是你们住在其上的时候所不能得的安息。

我耳闻万军之耶和华说：“许多房屋必然荒废；宏伟华丽，无人居住。十亩的葡萄园只酿出一罢特的酒，一贺梅珥的谷种只结一伊法粮食。”
