他们就拿住耶利米，把他丢在王的儿子玛基雅的井里；那口井在护卫兵的院中。他们用绳子把耶利米缒下去，井里没有水，只有淤泥，耶利米就陷在淤泥中。在王宫里的太监古实人以伯‧米勒，听见他们把耶利米丢进井里，那时王坐在便雅悯门前。以伯‧米勒从王宫里出来，对王说：“主—我的王啊，这些人向耶利米先知一味地行恶，把他丢在井里；他在那里必因饥饿而死，因为城里不再有粮食了。”王就吩咐古实人以伯‧米勒说：“你从这里带领三十人，趁耶利米先知还没死，把他从井里拉上来。”于是以伯‧米勒带领这些人同去，进入王宫，到库房以下，从那里取了些碎布和破衣服，用绳子缒下去，到井里耶利米那里。古实人以伯‧米勒对耶利米说：“你用这些碎布和破衣服放在绳子上，垫你的腋下。”耶利米就照样做。这样，他们用绳子将耶利米从井里拉上来。耶利米仍在护卫兵的院中。

忽然，有主的一个使者显现，牢房里有光照耀；天使拍彼得的肋旁，叫醒了他，说：“快起来！”铁链就从他手上脱落下来。天使对他说：“束上腰带，穿上鞋子。”他就照着做了。天使又对他说：“披上外衣，跟我来。”

于是，犹大和便雅悯的族长、祭司、利未人，凡是心被神感动的人都起来，要上耶路撒冷去建造耶和华的殿。

他们不饥不渴，炎热和烈日必不伤害他们；因为怜悯他们的必引导他们，领他们到水泉旁边。

耶利米来到地牢，进入牢房，在那里拘留多日。

他们要在坑中了结我的性命，丢石头在我身上。众水淹没我的头，我说：“我没命了！”
