Now the house of David was told,“ Aram has allied itself with Ephraim”; so the hearts of Ahaz and his people were shaken, as the trees of the forest are shaken by the wind.

The royal family of Ahaz was told,“ The army of Aram has joined forces with Ephraim’s army.” So the hearts of Ahaz and his people trembled with fear. They shook just as trees in the forest shake when the wind blows through them.

When the house of David was told,“ Syria is in league with Ephraim,” the heart of Ahaz and the heart of his people shook as the trees of the forest shake before the wind.

The news had come to the royal court of Judah:“ Syria is allied with Israel against us!” So the hearts of the king and his people trembled with fear, like trees shaking in a storm.

When it became known to the house of David that Aram had occupied Ephraim, the heart of Ahaz and the hearts of his people trembled like trees of a forest shaking in the wind.

When it was reported to the house of David, saying,“ The Arameans have taken a stand by Ephraim,” his heart and the hearts of his people shook as the trees of the forest shake from the wind.

And it was told to the house of David, saying,“ Syria’s forces are deployed in Ephraim.” So his heart and the heart of his people were moved as the trees of the woods are moved with the wind.

And it was told the house of David, saying, Syria is confederate with Ephraim. And his heart trembled, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the forest tremble with the wind.

When it became known to the house of David that Aram had occupied Ephraim, the heart of Ahaz and the hearts of his people trembled like trees of a forest shaking in the wind.

It was reported to the family of David,“ Syria has allied with Ephraim.” They and their people were emotionally shaken, just as the trees of the forest shake before the wind.

David’s house was told,“ Syria is allied with Ephraim.” His heart trembled, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the forest tremble with the wind.

Then Isaiah said,“ Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of humans? Will you try the patience of my God also? (niv)

“ Do not call conspiracy everything this people calls a conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it. (niv)

The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion. (niv)

All the people will know it— Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria— who say with pride and arrogance of heart, (niv)

When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. (niv)

So Amaziah dismissed the troops who had come to him from Ephraim and sent them home. They were furious with Judah and left for home in a great rage. (niv)

Then some of the leaders in Ephraim— Azariah son of Jehohanan, Berekiah son of Meshillemoth, Jehizkiah son of Shallum, and Amasa son of Hadlai— confronted those who were arriving from the war. (niv)

By the word of the Lord he cried out against the altar:“ Altar, altar! This is what the Lord says:‘ A son named Josiah will be born to the house of David. On you he will sacrifice the priests of the high places who make offerings here, and human bones will be burned on you.’” (niv)

for the Lord had caused the Arameans to hear the sound of chariots and horses and a great army, so that they said to one another,“ Look, the king of Israel has hired the Hittite and Egyptian kings to attack us!”So they got up and fled in the dusk and abandoned their tents and their horses and donkeys. They left the camp as it was and ran for their lives. (niv)

“ I will defend this city and save it, for my sake and for the sake of David my servant!” (niv)

But for the sake of my servant David and the city of Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, he will have one tribe. (niv)

Ephraim feeds on the wind; he pursues the east wind all day and multiplies lies and violence. He makes a treaty with Assyria and sends olive oil to Egypt. (niv)

Their people, drained of power, are dismayed and put to shame. They are like plants in the field, like tender green shoots, like grass sprouting on the roof, scorched before it grows up. (niv)

When all Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, they answered the king:“ What share do we have in David, what part in Jesse’s son? To your tents, Israel! Look after your own house, David!” So the Israelites went home. (niv)

Among those nations you will find no repose, no resting place for the sole of your foot. There the Lord will give you an anxious mind, eyes weary with longing, and a despairing heart.You will live in constant suspense, filled with dread both night and day, never sure of your life. (niv)

This is what the Lord says to you, house of David:“‘ Administer justice every morning; rescue from the hand of the oppressor the one who has been robbed, or my wrath will break out and burn like fire because of the evil you have done— burn with no one to quench it. (niv)

The Lord will bring on you and on your people and on the house of your father a time unlike any since Ephraim broke away from Judah— he will bring the king of Assyria.” (niv)

They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear; in the end they will look in triumph on their foes. (niv)

“‘ As for those of you who are left, I will make their hearts so fearful in the lands of their enemies that the sound of a windblown leaf will put them to flight. They will run as though fleeing from the sword, and they will fall, even though no one is pursuing them.They will stumble over one another as though fleeing from the sword, even though no one is pursuing them. So you will not be able to stand before your enemies. (niv)

In the Lord I take refuge. How then can you say to me:“ Flee like a bird to your mountain. (niv)

“ Son of man, take a stick of wood and write on it,‘ Belonging to Judah and the Israelites associated with him.’ Then take another stick of wood, and write on it,‘ Belonging to Joseph( that is, to Ephraim) and all the Israelites associated with him.’Join them together into one stick so that they will become one in your hand.“ When your people ask you,‘ Won’t you tell us what you mean by this?’say to them,‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am going to take the stick of Joseph— which is in Ephraim’s hand— and of the Israelite tribes associated with him, and join it to Judah’s stick. I will make them into a single stick of wood, and they will become one in my hand.’ (niv)

The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall. (niv)

That night all the members of the community raised their voices and wept aloud.All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them,“ If only we had died in Egypt! Or in this wilderness!Why is the Lord bringing us to this land only to let us fall by the sword? Our wives and children will be taken as plunder. Wouldn’t it be better for us to go back to Egypt?” (niv)

Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.’” (niv)

And though a tenth remains in the land, it will again be laid waste. But as the terebinth and oak leave stumps when they are cut down, so the holy seed will be the stump in the land.” (niv)

Ephraim’s jealousy will vanish, and Judah’s enemies will be destroyed; Ephraim will not be jealous of Judah, nor Judah hostile toward Ephraim. (niv)

I will place on his shoulder the key to the house of David; what he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. (niv)
