不要為明日自誇，因為今天要發生甚麼事，你尚且不知道。

他自己心裡說：‘怎麼辦呢？因為我沒有足夠的地方收藏出產了！’又說：‘我要這樣辦：我要拆掉這些倉房，建造更大的，好在那裡收藏我的一切糧食和貨物。然後，我要對我的靈魂說：靈魂啊，你擁有許多好東西，足夠多年享用，只管安安逸逸地吃喝快樂吧！’神卻對他說：‘無知的人哪，今天晚上，你的靈魂必被取去，你所預備的要歸給誰呢？’

他們彼此說：“來，我們做磚，把磚燒透吧！”他們就把磚當作石頭，又把石漆當作灰泥。他們又說：“來，我們建一座城，造一座塔，塔頂要通天。我們要為自己立名，免得分散在全地上。”

人民和祭司，僕人和主人，婢女和主母，購買的和販賣的，借給人和向人借的，放債的和借債的，全都一樣被分散。

我自己心裡說：“來吧，我用享樂試試你，讓你看看有甚麼好處。”想不到，這也是虛空。

你們富有的人哪，應當為那將要臨到你們的災禍哭泣哀號。

哀哭的要像不哀哭的，快樂的要像不快樂的，買了東西的要像一無所得的，

來，我們下去，在那裡混亂他們的語言，使他們聽不懂對方的話。”

現在我告訴你們，我要怎樣處理我的葡萄園：我要把它的籬笆撤去，使它被吞滅；我要把它的圍牆拆毀，使它被踐踏。

時候到了，日子近了，買的不必歡喜，賣的不用憂愁；因為烈怒要臨到眾人身上。

這些狗十分貪吃，不知飽足；他們是牧人，但甚麼都不明白；他們都偏行自己的道路，各從各方求自己的利益。他們說：“來吧！我去拿酒，讓我們痛飲烈酒吧！明天必像今天一樣，而且比今天還盛大和豐盈。”
