Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God. (niv)

and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also— not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, (niv)

“ And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever. (niv)

“ Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean. (niv)

But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds. (niv)

“ Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. (niv)

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. (niv)

Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing. (niv)

The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. (niv)

Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart. (niv)

The Lord has dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me. (niv)

The Lord says:“ These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught. (niv)

Nevertheless, the righteous will hold to their ways, and those with clean hands will grow stronger. (niv)

Such a person is double- minded and unstable in all they do. (niv)

yet my hands have been free of violence and my prayer is pure. (niv)

I wash my hands in innocence, and go about your altar, Lord, (niv)

When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd.“ I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said.“ It is your responsibility!” (niv)

Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure and have washed my hands in innocence. (niv)
