They advanced against the Canaanites living in Hebron( formerly called Kiriath Arba) and defeated Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai.

Then the men of Judah marched out against the Canaanites living in Hebron. Hebron used to be called Kiriath Arba. The men of Judah won the battle over Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai.

And Judah went against the Canaanites who lived in Hebron( now the name of Hebron was formerly Kiriath-arba), and they defeated Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai.

Judah marched against the Canaanites in Hebron( formerly called Kiriath arba), defeating the forces of Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai.

希伯仑从前名叫基列·亚巴，亚巴原是亚衲族中最伟大的人。从此，境内太平，没有战争。

他们经南地到达希伯仑。希伯仑城比埃及的锁安城还要早建七年，那里住着亚衲人的子孙亚希幔、示筛和挞买。

照摩西的吩咐，迦勒得到了希伯仑。他把亚衲三族的人从那里赶走。

我又发现，日光之下，跑得快的未必能得奖，强大的未必能得胜，智者未必得温饱，聪明人未必有财富，博学者未必受爱戴，因为时机和境遇左右众人。

耶和华说：“智者不要夸耀自己的智慧，勇士不要夸耀自己的力量，富人不要夸耀自己的财富。

我们在那里看见了亚衲人的子孙，他们是巨人的后裔，我们跟他们相比就像蚱蜢，他们看我们也像蚱蜢。”

君王不能靠兵多取胜，勇士不能凭力大获救。靠战马取胜实属妄想，马虽力大也不能救人。

约书亚又照耶和华的吩咐，在犹大支派所分到的土地之中划出基列·亚巴，即希伯仑，分给耶孚尼的儿子迦勒。亚巴是亚衲人的祖先。迦勒赶走了住在那里的亚衲族的三个族长，即示筛、亚希幔和挞买，再从那里起兵攻打底璧，底璧以前的名字是基列·西弗。迦勒说：“谁攻取基列·西弗，我就把女儿押撒嫁给他。”迦勒的兄弟基纳斯的儿子俄陀聂攻取了那城，迦勒便把女儿押撒嫁给他。押撒出嫁的时候，劝丈夫向她父亲要一块田。她刚下驴，迦勒便问她：“你想要什么？”押撒答道：“请你赐福给我，你既然把南地给了我，就求你也把水泉赐给我。”迦勒就把上泉和下泉都给了她。
