耶和华向他们发怒，使他们遭到掠夺者的攻击和四周仇敌的压制，毫无抵抗之力。

耶和华是痛恨不贞、施行报应的上帝。耶和华施行报应，充满烈怒。耶和华报应祂的仇敌，向他们发烈怒。

祂发怒，谁能站立？祂发烈怒，谁能承受？祂的愤怒如火焰喷涌而出，磐石在祂面前崩裂。

你把我们廉价卖掉，视我们一文不值。

他们却忘记了他们的上帝耶和华，于是耶和华让他们落入夏琐的将军西西拉、非利士人和摩押王的手中，这些人常常攻击他们。他们就向耶和华呼求，‘耶和华啊，我们犯了罪，我们背弃了你去供奉巴力和亚斯她录，现在求你从仇敌手中救我们，我们必事奉你。’

耶和华说：“我休你们母亲的休书在哪里呢？我把你们卖给了我哪一个债主呢？你们被卖是因为你们的罪恶，你们母亲被休是因为你们的过犯。

耶和华对摩西说：“你快要与祖先同眠了。这些百姓将很快在要占领的土地上与外族人的神明苟合，背弃我，违背我与他们所立的约。那时，我要向他们发怒，离弃他们，掩面不理他们。他们将被吞灭，遭遇许多祸患和灾难，以致他们会说，‘这些祸患临到我们岂不是因为上帝不在我们中间了吗？’那时，我必掩面不理他们，因为他们祭拜别的神明，行为邪恶。

他们拜外族的神明，令祂愤恨；行可憎之事，惹祂发怒。他们祭拜的不是真神，而是鬼魔，是他们素不认识的新神明，是他们祖先所不敬畏的。他们轻视生他们的磐石，忘记养他们的上帝。“耶和华看见祂儿女的恶行，就愤然厌弃他们，说，‘这堕落的子民，不忠的儿女！我要掩面不理他们，看他们的结局如何。他们拜假神，让我愤恨；供虚无之物，惹我发怒。我要借无名之民挑起他们的嫉妒，用愚昧的国民激起他们的怒气。我的怒火已经点燃，要烧到阴间的尽头，吞灭大地及其出产，甚至烧毁山的根基。

耶和华绝不会赦免这样的人，祂必向这样的人发烈怒，使记在这书上的一切咒诅临到他身上，从世上抹去他的名字。耶和华必把他从以色列各支派中隔离出来，使他按律法书上约中的一切咒诅受惩罚。“你们的子孙后代和从远方来的外族人，必看见耶和华降在这地方的灾祸和疾病。遍地将是硫磺和盐，无法耕种，寸草不生，如同耶和华盛怒之下毁灭的所多玛、蛾摩拉、押玛和洗扁。万国必问，‘耶和华为什么要这样对待这地方？祂为什么大发烈怒？’必有人回答说，‘因为这地方的人背弃了他们祖先的上帝耶和华领他们出埃及时与他们所立的约，去供奉、祭拜他们所不认识、并非耶和华所分派的神明。因此，耶和华向这片土地发怒，把这书上的一切咒诅都降在这里。耶和华盛怒之下把他们从这地方连根拔起，扔到别的地方，正如今日的情形。’

上帝啊，你为何永远丢弃了我们？你为何对自己草场上的羊大发雷霆？

耶和华把他们交在统治夏琐的迦南王耶宾手中。耶宾王的将军叫西西拉，住在夏罗设。

正如你们的上帝耶和华已成就祂应许给你们的一切福气，如果你们违背祂，祂必照样降各样灾祸给你们，直到把你们从祂所赐的这美好土地上毁灭。你们如果违背你们的上帝耶和华吩咐你们遵守的约，去供奉、祭拜别的神明，祂必向你们发怒，使你们在祂所赐的这美好土地上迅速灭亡。”
