那時，以色列全地沒有一個鐵匠；因為非利士人說，恐怕希伯來人製造刀槍。以色列人要磨鋤、犂、斧、鏟，就下到非利士人那裏去磨。但有銼可以銼鏟、犂、三齒叉、斧子，並趕牛錐。所以到了爭戰的日子，跟隨掃羅和約拿單的人沒有一個手裏有刀有槍的，惟獨掃羅和他兒子約拿單有。非利士人的一隊防兵到了密抹的隘口。

要起行轉到亞摩利人的山地和靠近這山地的各處，就是亞拉巴、山地、高原、南地，沿海一帶迦南人的地，並黎巴嫩山又到幼發拉底大河。

非利士人聚集，要與以色列人爭戰，有車三萬輛，馬兵六千，步兵像海邊的沙那樣多，就上來在伯‧亞文東邊的密抹安營。

西布倫必住在海口，必成為停船的海口；他的境界必延到西頓。

耶和華將他們交在以色列人手裏，以色列人就擊殺他們，追趕他們到西頓大城，到米斯利弗‧瑪音，直到東邊米斯巴的平原，將他們擊殺，沒有留下一個。約書亞就照耶和華所吩咐他的去行，砍斷他們馬的蹄筋，用火焚燒他們的車輛。當時，約書亞轉回奪了夏瑣，用刀擊殺夏瑣王。（素來夏瑣在這諸國中是為首的。）以色列人用刀擊殺城中的人口，將他們盡行殺滅；凡有氣息的沒有留下一個。約書亞又用火焚燒夏瑣。約書亞奪了這些王的一切城邑，擒獲其中的諸王，用刀擊殺他們，將他們盡行殺滅，正如耶和華僕人摩西所吩咐的。至於造在山岡上的城，除了夏瑣以外，以色列人都沒有焚燒。約書亞只將夏瑣焚燒了。

從何珥山劃到哈馬口，通到西達達，

以色列人出去與非利士人打仗，安營在以便以謝；非利士人安營在亞弗。非利士人向以色列人擺陣。兩軍交戰的時候，以色列人敗在非利士人面前；非利士人在戰場上殺了他們的軍兵約有四千人。

耶和華就把他們付與在夏瑣作王的迦南王耶賓手中；他的將軍是西西拉，住在外邦人的夏羅設。

亞瑪力人住在南地；赫人、耶布斯人、亞摩利人住在山地；迦南人住在海邊並約旦河旁。」

他的父母卻不知道這事是出於耶和華，因為他找機會攻擊非利士人。那時，非利士人轄制以色列人。

又到義伯崙、利合、哈們、加拿，直到西頓大城；

西頓人、亞瑪力人、馬雲人也都欺壓你們；你們哀求我，我也拯救你們脫離他們的手。

又去見東方和西方的迦南人，與山地的亞摩利人、赫人、比利洗人、耶布斯人，並黑門山根米斯巴地的希未人。

迦南生長子西頓，又生赫和耶布斯人、亞摩利人、革迦撒人、希未人、亞基人、西尼人、亞瓦底人、洗瑪利人、哈馬人，後來迦南的諸族分散了。迦南的境界是從西頓向基拉耳的路上，直到迦薩，又向所多瑪、蛾摩拉、押瑪、洗扁的路上，直到拉沙。

非利士人的首領各率軍隊，或百或千，挨次前進；大衛和跟隨他的人同着亞吉跟在後邊。

這樣，神使迦南王耶賓被以色列人制伏了。從此以色列人的手越發有力，勝了迦南王耶賓，直到將他滅絕了。

五人就走了，來到拉億，見那裏的民安居無慮，如同西頓人安居一樣。在那地沒有人掌權擾亂他們；他們離西頓人也遠，與別人沒有來往。

金老鼠的數目是照非利士五個首領的城邑，就是堅固的城邑和鄉村，以及大磐石。這磐石是放耶和華約櫃的，到今日還在伯‧示麥人約書亞的田間。

耶和華的怒氣向以色列人發作，就把他們交在非利士人和亞捫人的手中。
