The men of Ephraim said to him,“ Why have you treated us this way, that you didn’t call us when you went to fight with Midian?” They rebuked him sharply.

以法莲人对基甸说：“你去与米甸人争战，没有招我们同去，为什么这样待我们呢？”他们就与基甸大大地争吵。

后来，以法莲人对基甸说：“你攻打米甸人时为什么不召我们去？你为什么这样对待我们？”他们与他激烈地争论起来。

以法蓮人對基甸說：「你去與米甸人爭戰，沒有招我們同去，為甚麼這樣待我們呢？」他們就與基甸大大地爭吵。

以法蓮人謂基甸曰、爾與米甸人戰、而不招我、何待我如是、遂切責之、

以法蓮人謂其田曰、爾初往攻米田人、曷不招我、何待我如是。遂切責之。

以法蓮人謂基甸曰、爾往攻米甸人、不招我同往、何待我如是、遂與之大爭、

Now the Ephraimites asked Gideon,“ Why have you treated us like this? Why didn’t you call us when you went to fight Midian?” And they challenged him vigorously.

The men of Ephraim asked Gideon,“ Why have you treated us like this? Why didn’t you ask us to help you when you went out to fight against Midian?” In anger they challenged Gideon.

Then the men of Ephraim said to him,“ What is this that you have done to us, not to call us when you went to fight against Midian?” And they accused him fiercely.

Then the people of Ephraim asked Gideon,“ Why have you treated us this way? Why didn’t you send for us when you first went out to fight the Midianites?” And they argued heatedly with Gideon.

The men of Ephraim said to him,“ Why have you done this to us, not calling us when you went to fight against the Midianites?” And they argued with him violently.

Then the men of Ephraim said to Gideon,“ What is this thing that you have done to us, not calling upon us when you went to fight against Midian?” And they quarreled with him vehemently.

Now the men of Ephraim said to him,“ Why have you done this to us by not calling us when you went to fight with the Midianites?” And they reprimanded him sharply.

And the men of Ephraim said unto him, Why hast thou served us thus, that thou calledst us not, when thou wentest to fight with Midian? And they did chide with him sharply.

The men of Ephraim said to him,“ Why have you done this to us, not calling us when you went to fight against the Midianites?” And they argued with him violently.

The Ephraimites said to him,“ Why have you done such a thing to us? You did not summon us when you went to fight the Midianites!” They argued vehemently with him.

Behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said to the king,“ Why have our brothers the men of Judah stolen you away, and brought the king, and his household, over the Jordan, and all David’s men with him?”

Then I saw all the labor and achievement that is the envy of a man’s neighbor. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.

For resentment kills the foolish man, and jealousy kills the simple.

The men of Ephraim were gathered together, and passed northward; and they said to Jephthah,“ Why did you pass over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didn’t call us to go with you? We will burn your house around you with fire!”Jephthah said to them,“ I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, you didn’t save me out of their hand.When I saw that you didn’t save me, I put my life in my hand, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and Yahweh delivered them into my hand. Why then have you come up to me today, to fight against me?”Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim. The men of Gilead struck Ephraim, because they said,“ You are fugitives of Ephraim, you Gileadites, in the middle of Ephraim, and in the middle of Manasseh.”The Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites. Whenever a fugitive of Ephraim said,“ Let me go over,” the men of Gilead said to him,“ Are you an Ephraimite?” If he said,“ No;”then they said to him,“ Now say‘ Shibboleth;’” and he said“ Sibboleth”; for he couldn’t manage to pronounce it correctly, then they seized him and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. At that time, forty- two thousand of Ephraim fell.

Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain,“ The Spirit who lives in us yearns jealously”?But he gives more grace. Therefore it says,“ God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
