Alas, my mother, that you gave me birth, a man with whom the whole land strives and contends! I have neither lent nor borrowed, yet everyone curses me.

My mother, I wish I had never been born! The whole land opposes me. They fight against me. I haven’t made loans to anyone. And I haven’t borrowed anything. But everyone curses me anyway.

Woe is me, my mother, that you bore me, a man of strife and contention to the whole land! I have not lent, nor have I borrowed, yet all of them curse me.

Then I said,“ What sorrow is mine, my mother. Oh, that I had died at birth! I am hated everywhere I go. I am neither a lender who threatens to foreclose nor a borrower who refuses to pay— yet they all curse me.”

Woe is me, my mother, that you gave birth to me, a man who incites dispute and conflict in all the land. I did not lend or borrow, yet everyone curses me.

I said,“ Oh, mother, how I regret that you ever gave birth to me! I am always starting arguments and quarrels with the people of this land. I have not lent money to anyone and I have not borrowed from anyone. Yet all of these people are treating me with contempt.”

Woe is me, my mother, that you have borne me, a man of strife, and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have not lent, neither have men lent to me; yet every one of them curses me.

“ If you lend money to My people, to the poor among you, you are not to act as a creditor to him; you shall not charge him interest.

Lord, You persuaded me and I let myself be persuaded; You have overcome me and prevailed. I have become a laughingstock all day long; Everyone mocks me.For each time I speak, I cry aloud; I proclaim violence and destruction, Because for me the word of the Lord has resulted In taunting and derision all day long.

Now behold, I have made you today like a fortified city and like a pillar of iron and walls of bronze against the whole land, to the kings of Judah, to its leaders, to its priests, and to the people of the land.And they will fight against you but they will not overcome you, for I am with you to save you,” declares the Lord.

He does not lend his money at interest, Nor does he take a bribe against the innocent. One who does these things will never be shaken.

Then I will make you to this people A fortified wall of bronze; And though they fight against you, They will not prevail over you; For I am with you to save you And rescue you,” declares the Lord.

Afterward Job opened his mouth and cursed the day of his birth.And Job said,“ May the day on which I was to be born perish, As well as the night which said,‘ A boy is conceived.’May that day be darkness; May God above not care for it, Nor light shine on it.May darkness and black gloom claim it; May a cloud settle on it; May the blackness of the day terrify it.As for that night, may darkness seize it; May it not rejoice among the days of the year; May it not come into the number of the months.Behold, may that night be barren; May no joyful shout enter it.May those curse it who curse the day, Who are prepared to disturb Leviathan.May the stars of its twilight be darkened; May it wait for light but have none, And may it not see the breaking dawn;Because it did not shut the opening of my mother’s womb, Or hide trouble from my eyes.“ Why did I not die at birth, Come out of the womb and pass away?Why were the knees there in front of me, And why the breasts, that I would nurse?For now I would have lain down and been quiet; I would have slept then, I would have been at rest,With kings and counselors of the earth, Who rebuilt ruins for themselves;Or with rulers who had gold, Who were filling their houses with silver.Or like a miscarriage which is hidden, I would not exist, As infants that never saw light.There the wicked cease from raging, And there the weary are at rest.The prisoners are at ease together; They do not hear the voice of the taskmaster.The small and the great are there, And the slave is free from his master.“ Why is light given to one burdened with grief, And life to the bitter of soul,Who long for death, but there is none, And dig for it more than for hidden treasures;Who are filled with jubilation, And rejoice when they find the grave?Why is light given to a man whose way is hidden, And whom God has shut off?For my groaning comes at the sight of my food, And my cries pour out like water.For what I fear comes upon me, And what I dread encounters me.I am not at ease, nor am I quiet, And I am not at rest, but turmoil comes.”

And as for you, son of man, you are not to fear them nor fear their words, though thistles and thorns are with you and you sit on scorpions; you are not to fear their words nor be dismayed at their presence, since they are a rebellious house.But you shall speak My words to them whether they listen or not, for they are rebellious.

and when they had brought them to the chief magistrates, they said,“ These men, Jews as they are, are causing our city trouble,and they are proclaiming customs that are not lawful for us to accept or to practice, since we are Romans.”The crowd joined in an attack against them, and the chief magistrates tore their robes off them and proceeded to order them to be beaten with rods.

Like a sparrow in its flitting, like a swallow in its flying, So a curse without cause does not come to rest.

And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat,“ There is still one man by whom we may inquire of the Lord, but I hate him, because he does not prophesy anything good regarding me, but only bad. He is Micaiah the son of Imlah.” But Jehoshaphat said,“ May the king not say so.”

Then Ahab said to Elijah,“ Have you found me, enemy of mine?” And he answered,“ I have found you, because you have given yourself over to do evil in the sight of the Lord.

When Ahab saw Elijah, Ahab said to him,“ Is this you, the cause of disaster to Israel?”He said,“ I have not brought disaster to Israel, but you and your father’s house have, because you have abandoned the commandments of the Lord and you have followed the Baals.

For I think, God has exhibited us, the apostles, last of all as men condemned to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to mankind.We are fools on account of Christ, but you are prudent in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are without honor!Up to this present hour we are both hungry and thirsty, and are poorly clothed and roughly treated and homeless;and we labor, working with our own hands; when we are verbally abused, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it;when we are slandered, we reply as friends; we have become as the scum of the world, the dregs of all things, even until now.

“ You are not to charge interest to your countrymen: interest on money, food, or anything that may be loaned on interest.You may charge interest to a foreigner, but to your countrymen you shall not charge interest, so that the Lord your God may bless you in all that you undertake in the land which you are about to enter to possess.

And Simeon blessed them and said to His mother Mary,“ Behold, this Child is appointed for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and as a sign to be opposed—

Blessed are you when the people hate you, and when they exclude you, and insult you, and scorn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man.

But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

Cursed be the day when I was born; May the day when my mother gave birth to me not be blessed!Cursed be the man who brought the news To my father, saying,“ A boy has been born to you!” And made him very happy.But may that man be like the cities Which the Lord overthrew without relenting, And may he hear an outcry in the morning And an alarm for war at noon;Because he did not kill me before birth, So that my mother would have been my grave, And her womb forever pregnant.Why did I ever come out of the womb To look at trouble and sorrow, So that my days have been spent in shame?

he gathered these men together with the workmen of similar trades, and said,“ Men, you know that our prosperity depends upon this business.You see and hear that not only in Ephesus, but in almost all of Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away a considerable number of people, saying that gods made by hands are not gods at all.Not only is there danger that this trade of ours will fall into disrepute, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be regarded as worthless, and that she whom all of Asia and the world worship will even be dethroned from her magnificence.”When they heard this and were filled with rage, they began shouting, saying,“ Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”

But we desire to hear from you what your views are; for regarding this sect, it is known to us that it is spoken against everywhere.”

yet the house of Israel will not be willing to listen to you, since they are not willing to listen to Me. The entire house of Israel certainly is stubborn and obstinate.Behold, I have made your face just as hard as their faces, and your forehead just as hard as their foreheads.Like emery harder than flint I have made your forehead. Do not be afraid of them or be dismayed before them, since they are a rebellious house.”

“ Then they will hand you over to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name.

Woe to me, for I reside in Meshech, For I have settled among the tents of Kedar!Too long has my soul had its dwelling With those who hate peace.

And he entered the synagogue and continued speaking out boldly for three months, having discussions and persuading them about the kingdom of God.But when some were becoming hardened and disobedient, speaking evil of the Way before the people, he withdrew from them and took the disciples away with him, and had discussions daily in the school of Tyrannus.

“ Now brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.And you will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved.“ But whenever they persecute you in one city, flee to the next; for truly I say to you, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel until the Son of Man comes.

Do not take any kind of interest from him, but fear your God, so that your countryman may live with you.

When they did not find them, they began dragging Jason and some brothers before the city authorities, shouting,“ These men who have upset the world have come here also;and Jason has welcomed them, and they all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus.”They stirred up the crowd and the city authorities who heard these things.

They will curse, but You bless; When they arise, they will be ashamed, But Your servant will be glad.

Now there was a great outcry of the people and of their wives against their Jewish brothers.For there were those who said,“ We, our sons, and our daughters are many; therefore let’s get grain so that we may eat and live.”And there were others who said,“ We are mortgaging our fields, our vineyards, and our houses so that we might get grain because of the famine.”There also were those who said,“ We have borrowed money for the king’s tax on our fields and our vineyards.And now our flesh is like the flesh of our brothers, our children like their children. Yet behold, we are forcing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and some of our daughters are forced into bondage already, and we are helpless because our fields and vineyards belong to others.”Then I was very angry when I heard their outcry and these words.
