Woe is me, my mother, that you have borne me, a man of strife, and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have not lent, neither have men lent to me; yet every one of them curses me.

Alas, my mother, that you gave me birth, a man with whom the whole land strives and contends! I have neither lent nor borrowed, yet everyone curses me.

My mother, I wish I had never been born! The whole land opposes me. They fight against me. I haven’t made loans to anyone. And I haven’t borrowed anything. But everyone curses me anyway.

Woe is me, my mother, that you bore me, a man of strife and contention to the whole land! I have not lent, nor have I borrowed, yet all of them curse me.

Then I said,“ What sorrow is mine, my mother. Oh, that I had died at birth! I am hated everywhere I go. I am neither a lender who threatens to foreclose nor a borrower who refuses to pay— yet they all curse me.”

I said,“ Oh, mother, how I regret that you ever gave birth to me! I am always starting arguments and quarrels with the people of this land. I have not lent money to anyone and I have not borrowed from anyone. Yet all of these people are treating me with contempt.”

“ If you lend money to any of my people with you who is poor, you shall not be to him as a creditor. You shall not charge him interest.

Yahweh, you have persuaded me, and I was persuaded. You are stronger than I, and have prevailed. I have become a laughingstock all day. Everyone mocks me.For as often as I speak, I cry out; I cry,“ Violence and destruction!” because Yahweh’s word has been made a reproach to me, and a derision, all day.

For, behold, I have made you today a fortified city, an iron pillar, and bronze walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against its princes, against its priests, and against the people of the land.They will fight against you, but they will not prevail against you; for I am with you”, says Yahweh,“ to rescue you.”

he who doesn’t lend out his money for usury, nor take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be shaken.

I will make you to this people a fortified bronze wall. They will fight against you, but they will not prevail against you; for I am with you to save you and to deliver you,” says Yahweh.

After this Job opened his mouth, and cursed the day of his birth.Job answered:“ Let the day perish in which I was born, the night which said,‘ There is a boy conceived.’Let that day be darkness. Don’t let God from above seek for it, neither let the light shine on it.Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it for their own. Let a cloud dwell on it. Let all that makes black the day terrify it.As for that night, let thick darkness seize on it. Let it not rejoice among the days of the year. Let it not come into the number of the months.Behold, let that night be barren. Let no joyful voice come therein.Let them curse it who curse the day, who are ready to rouse up leviathan.Let the stars of its twilight be dark. Let it look for light, but have none, neither let it see the eyelids of the morning,because it didn’t shut up the doors of my mother’s womb, nor did it hide trouble from my eyes.“ Why didn’t I die from the womb? Why didn’t I give up the spirit when my mother bore me?Why did the knees receive me? Or why the breast, that I should nurse?For now should I have lain down and been quiet. I should have slept, then I would have been at rest,with kings and counselors of the earth, who built up waste places for themselves;or with princes who had gold, who filled their houses with silver:or as a hidden untimely birth I had not been, as infants who never saw light.There the wicked cease from troubling. There the weary are at rest.There the prisoners are at ease together. They don’t hear the voice of the taskmaster.The small and the great are there. The servant is free from his master.“ Why is light given to him who is in misery, life to the bitter in soul,Who long for death, but it doesn’t come; and dig for it more than for hidden treasures,who rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave?Why is light given to a man whose way is hidden, whom God has hedged in?For my sighing comes before I eat. My groanings are poured out like water.For the thing which I fear comes on me, That which I am afraid of comes to me.I am not at ease, neither am I quiet, neither have I rest; but trouble comes.”

You, son of man, don’t be afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns are with you, and you dwell among scorpions. Don’t be afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house.You shall speak my words to them, whether they will hear, or whether they will refuse; for they are most rebellious.

When they had brought them to the magistrates, they said,“ These men, being Jews, are agitating our cityand advocate customs which it is not lawful for us to accept or to observe, being Romans.”The multitude rose up together against them and the magistrates tore their clothes from them, then commanded them to be beaten with rods.

Like a fluttering sparrow, like a darting swallow, so the undeserved curse doesn’t come to rest.

The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat,“ There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Yahweh, Micaiah the son of Imlah; but I hate him, for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil.” Jehoshaphat said,“ Don’t let the king say so.”

Ahab said to Elijah,“ Have you found me, my enemy?” He answered,“ I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do that which is evil in Yahweh’s sight.

When Ahab saw Elijah, Ahab said to him,“ Is that you, you troubler of Israel?”He answered,“ I have not troubled Israel; but you, and your father’s house, in that you have forsaken Yahweh’s commandments, and you have followed the Baals.

For, I think that God has displayed us, the apostles, last of all, like men sentenced to death. For we are made a spectacle to the world, both to angels and men.We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You have honor, but we have dishonor.Even to this present hour we hunger, thirst, are naked, are beaten, and have no certain dwelling place.We toil, working with our own hands. When people curse us, we bless. Being persecuted, we endure.Being defamed, we entreat. We are made as the filth of the world, the dirt wiped off by all, even until now.

You shall not lend on interest to your brother: interest of money, interest of food, interest of anything that is lent on interest.You may charge a foreigner interest; but you shall not your brother interest, that Yahweh your God may bless you in all that you put your hand to, in the land where you go in to possess it.

and Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary, his mother,“ Behold, this child is set for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which is spoken against.

Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude and mock you, and throw out your name as evil, for the Son of Man’s sake.

But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you,

Cursed is the day in which I was born. Don’t let the day in which my mother bore me be blessed.Cursed is the man who brought news to my father, saying,“ A boy is born to you,” making him very glad.Let that man be as the cities which Yahweh overthrew, and didn’t repent. Let him hear a cry in the morning, and shouting at noontime;because he didn’t kill me from the womb. So my mother would have been my grave, and her womb always great.Why did I come out of the womb to see labor and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?

whom he gathered together, with the workmen of like occupation, and said,“ Sirs, you know that by this business we have our wealth.You see and hear that not at Ephesus alone, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are no gods that are made with hands.Not only is there danger that this our trade come into disrepute, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be counted as nothing and her majesty destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worships.”When they heard this they were filled with anger, and cried out, saying,“ Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”

But we desire to hear from you what you think. For, as concerning this sect, it is known to us that everywhere it is spoken against.”

But the house of Israel will not listen to you, for they will not listen to me; for all the house of Israel are obstinate and hard- hearted.Behold, I have made your face hard against their faces, and your forehead hard against their foreheads.I have made your forehead as a diamond, harder than flint. Don’t be afraid of them, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house.”

Then they will deliver you up to oppression, and will kill you. You will be hated by all of the nations for my name’s sake.

Woe is me, that I live in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar!My soul has had her dwelling too long with him who hates peace.

He entered into the synagogue and spoke boldly for a period of three months, reasoning and persuading about the things concerning God’s Kingdom.But when some were hardened and disobedient, speaking evil of the Way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus.

“ Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child. Children will rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death.You will be hated by all men for my name’s sake, but he who endures to the end will be saved.But when they persecute you in this city, flee into the next, for most certainly I tell you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel until the Son of Man has come.

Take no interest from him or profit; but fear your God, that your brother may live among you.

When they didn’t find them, they dragged Jason and certain brothers before the rulers of the city, crying,“ These who have turned the world upside down have come here also,whom Jason has received. These all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus!”The multitude and the rulers of the city were troubled when they heard these things.

They may curse, but you bless. When they arise, they will be shamed, but your servant shall rejoice.

Then there arose a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brothers the Jews.For there were some who said,“ We, our sons and our daughters, are many. Let us get grain, that we may eat and live.”There were also some who said,“ We are mortgaging our fields, our vineyards, and our houses. Let us get grain, because of the famine.”There were also some who said,“ We have borrowed money for the king’s tribute using our fields and our vineyards as collateral.Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brothers, our children as their children. Behold, we bring our sons and our daughters into bondage to be servants, and some of our daughters have been brought into bondage. It is also not in our power to help it, because other men have our fields and our vineyards.”I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words.
