于是西底家王下令，他们就把耶利米交在护卫兵的院中，每天从饼店街取一个饼给他，直到城中所有的饼都用尽了。这样，耶利米仍逗留在护卫兵的院中。

乌赛的儿子巴拉修造转弯处的对面和靠近护卫院、王宫上层凸出来的城楼。接续他的是巴录的儿子毗大雅，

他们就拿住耶利米，把他丢在王的儿子玛基雅的井里；那口井在护卫兵的院中。他们用绳子把耶利米缒下去，井里没有水，只有淤泥，耶利米就陷在淤泥中。

耶利米还囚在护卫兵的院内，耶和华的话第二次临到他，说：

我叔父的儿子哈拿篾果然照耶和华的话来到护卫兵的院内，对我说：‘请你买我在便雅悯境内、亚拿突的那块地；因为它应该由你来承受，而且你也有代赎的责任。请你买下它吧！’我就知道这确是耶和华的话。

要欢喜快乐，因为你们在天上的赏赐是很多的。在你们以前的先知，人也是这样迫害他们。”

耶利米吩咐巴录说：“我被禁止，不能进耶和华的殿。

因为犹大王西底家囚禁他，说：“你为什么预言耶和华如此说：‘看哪，我要把这城交在巴比伦王的手中，他必攻下这城。

尼布撒拉旦护卫长和尼布沙斯班将军、尼甲‧沙利薛将军，并巴比伦王众官长，派人把耶利米从护卫兵的院中提出来，交给沙番的孙子，亚希甘的儿子基大利，让他自由进出屋子；于是耶利米住在百姓中间。耶利米还囚在护卫兵院中的时候，耶和华的话临到他，说：
