Tell King Jehoiakim of Judah,‘ The LORD says,“ You burned the scroll. You asked Jeremiah,‘ How dare you write in this scroll that the king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land and wipe out all the people and animals on it?’”

论到犹大王约雅敬你要说：‘耶和华这样说：你烧了那书卷，说：你为什么在上面写着说：巴比伦王一定来，毁灭这地，使地上的人畜都灭绝呢？

論到猶大王約雅敬你要說：「永恆主這麼說：你，你燒了這書卷，說：『你為甚麼在那上頭寫着說：巴比倫王一定會來，毁滅這地，使此地的人和牲口都從這上頭滅絕掉呢？』

且論猶大王約雅敬曰、耶和華云、爾焚其卷曰、汝奚錄於上云、巴比倫王必至、毀滅斯土、使其人畜俱泯、

奏猶大王約雅金曰、耶和華云、卷中有言巴比倫王必至、翦滅斯國、人民野獸、不得安居、爾不悅斯言、火焚其卷、

亦當告猶大王約雅敬曰、主如是云、爾問曰、何錄於卷云、巴比倫王必至毀滅斯國、翦絕人民牲畜、爾竟焚燬斯卷、

Also tell Jehoiakim king of Judah,‘ This is what the Lord says: You burned that scroll and said,“ Why did you write on it that the king of Babylon would certainly come and destroy this land and wipe from it both man and beast?”

Also tell King Jehoiakim,‘ The Lord says,“ You burned that scroll. You said to Baruch,‘ Why did you write that the king of Babylon would certainly come? Why did you write that he would destroy this land? And why did you write that he would remove from it people and animals alike?’ ”

And concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you shall say,‘ Thus says the Lord, You have burned this scroll, saying,“ Why have you written in it that the king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land, and will cut off from it man and beast?”

Then say to the king,‘ This is what the Lord says: You burned the scroll because it said the king of Babylon would destroy this land and empty it of people and animals.

You are to proclaim concerning King Jehoiakim of Judah,‘ This is what the LORD says: You have burned the scroll, asking,“ Why have you written on it that the king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land and cause it to be without people or animals?”

And concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you shall say,‘ This is what the Lord says:“ You have burned this scroll, saying,‘ Why have you written on it that the king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land, and will make mankind and animals disappear from it?’ ”

And you shall say to Jehoiakim king of Judah,‘ Thus says the Lord:“ You have burned this scroll, saying,‘ Why have you written in it that the king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land, and cause man and beast to cease from here?’”

And concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah thou shalt say, Thus saith Jehovah: Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?

You are to proclaim concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: This is what the Lord says: You have burned the scroll, saying,‘ Why have you written on it: The king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land and cause it to be without man or beast?’

And thou shalt say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?

Concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you shall say,‘ Yahweh says:“ You have burned this scroll, saying,“ Why have you written therein, saying,‘ The king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land, and will cause to cease from there man and animal?’”’

How dare you claim the LORD’s authority to prophesy such things! How dare you claim his authority to prophesy that this temple will become like Shiloh and that this city will become an uninhabited ruin!” Then all the people crowded around Jeremiah.

They say to the visionaries,“ See no more visions!” and to the seers,“ Don’t relate messages to us about what is right! Tell us nice things, relate deceptive messages.

When such a person hears the words of this oath he secretly blesses himself and says,“ I will have peace though I continue to walk with a stubborn spirit.” This will destroy the watered ground with the parched.

For King Zedekiah had confined Jeremiah there after he had reproved him for prophesying as he did. He had asked Jeremiah,“ Why do you keep prophesying these things? Why do you keep saying that the LORD says,‘ I will hand this city over to the king of Babylon? I will let him capture it.

those who bear false testimony against a person, who entrap the one who arbitrates at the city gate and deprive the innocent of justice by making false charges.

Distress and anguish terrify him; they prevail against him like a king ready to launch an attack,

One who argues with his creator is in grave danger, one who is like a mere shard among the other shards on the ground! The clay should not say to the potter,“ What in the world are you doing? Your work lacks skill!”

I will also hand King Zedekiah of Judah and his officials over to their enemies who want to kill them. I will hand them over to the army of the king of Babylon, even though they have temporarily withdrawn from attacking you.For I, the LORD, affirm that I will soon give the order and bring them back to this city. They will fight against it and capture it and burn it down. I will also make the towns of Judah desolate so that there will be no one living in them.”’”

Or are we trying to provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we really stronger than he is?

For I, the LORD, say that I am determined not to deliver this city but to bring disaster on it. It will be handed over to the king of Babylon and he will destroy it with fire.’”

that the LORD, the God of Israel, says,‘ The forces at your disposal are now outside the walls fighting against King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and the Babylonians who have you under siege. I will gather those forces back inside the city.In anger, in fury, and in wrath I myself will fight against you with my mighty power and great strength!I will kill everything living in Jerusalem, people and animals alike! They will die from terrible diseases.Then I, the LORD, promise that I will hand over King Zedekiah of Judah, his officials, and any of the people who survive the war, starvation, and disease. I will hand them over to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and to their enemies who want to kill them. He will slaughter them with the sword. He will not show them any mercy, compassion, or pity.’

saying,“ We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name. Look, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring this man’s blood on us!”

From earliest times, the prophets who preceded you and me invariably prophesied war, disaster, and plagues against many countries and great kingdoms.

Would you indeed annul my justice? Would you declare me guilty so that you might be right?

Therefore I, the LORD, say:‘ I will indeed hand this city over to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and the Babylonian army. They will capture it.The Babylonian soldiers that are attacking this city will break into it and set it on fire. They will burn it down along with the houses where people have made me angry by offering sacrifices to the god Baal and by pouring out drink offerings to other gods on their rooftops.This will happen because the people of Israel and Judah have repeatedly done what displeases me from their earliest history until now and because they have repeatedly made me angry by the things they have done. I, the LORD, affirm it!

but if it is from God, you will not be able to stop them, or you may even be found fighting against God.” He convinced them,
