他们就拿住耶利米，把他丢在王的儿子玛基雅的井里；那口井在护卫兵的院中。他们用绳子把耶利米缒下去，井里没有水，只有淤泥，耶利米就陷在淤泥中。在王宫里的太监古实人以伯‧米勒，听见他们把耶利米丢进井里，那时王坐在便雅悯门前。以伯‧米勒从王宫里出来，对王说：“主—我的王啊，这些人向耶利米先知一味地行恶，把他丢在井里；他在那里必因饥饿而死，因为城里不再有粮食了。”

他们审问了我，有意要释放我，因为在我身上并没有该死的罪状。但犹太人反对，我不得已只好上诉于凯撒，并不是有什么事要控告我本国的百姓。

但你们要确实知道，你们若把我处死，就使流无辜人血的罪归给你们和这城，以及城里的居民了；因为耶和华确实差遣我到你们这里来，将这一切话传到你们耳中。”

保罗的外甥听见他们设下埋伏，就来到营楼里告诉保罗。保罗请一个百夫长来，说：“你领这青年去见千夫长，他有事告诉他。”于是百夫长把他领去见千夫长，说：“被囚的保罗请我到他那里，求我领这青年来见你；他有事告诉你。”千夫长就拉着他的手，走到一旁，私下问他：“你有什么事告诉我呢？”他说：“犹太人已经约定，要求你明天把保罗带到议会去，假装要详细查问他的事。你切不要随从他们，因为他们有四十多人埋伏，已经起誓，若不先杀掉保罗就不吃不喝。现在都预备好了，只等你的允准。”于是千夫长打发那青年走，嘱咐他：“不要告诉人，你已将这些事报告我了。”

你就对他们说：‘我在王面前恳求不要把我送回约拿单的房屋，免得我死在那里。’”

保罗说：“我现在站在凯撒的审判台前，这就是我应当受审的地方。我并没有对犹太人做过什么不对的事，这也是你明明知道的。我若做了不对的事，犯了什么该死的罪，就是死我也不辞。他们所控告我的事若都不实，就没有人能把我交给他们。我要向凯撒上诉。”
