后来，保罗租了一间房子，在那里住了整整两年，接待所有到访的人。

进了罗马城后，保罗获准在卫兵的看守下自己一个人住。

于是，他们拿住耶利米，用绳子把他缒到王子玛基雅的蓄水池里。那池子在护卫兵的院子里，池中没有水，只有淤泥。耶利米就陷在淤泥中。

便派人把耶利米从护卫兵的院子提出来，让沙番的孙子、亚希甘的儿子基大利带他回家。从此，耶利米就生活在百姓当中。耶利米被监禁在护卫兵院子里的时候，耶和华对他说：“你去告诉古实人以伯·米勒，以色列的上帝——万军之耶和华说，‘看啊，我必照我说的使这城遭受灾祸，得不到祝福。你必亲眼看见这一切发生。’耶和华说，‘但那时，我必拯救你，使你不致落在你所惧怕的人手中。我必拯救你，使你保全性命，不致丧身刀下，因为你信靠我。这是耶和华说的。’”

他派百夫长看守保罗，给他一定的自由，也允许亲友来供应他的需要。几天后，腓利斯和他的妻子犹太人土西拉一同来了，召见保罗，听他讲信基督耶稣的事。当保罗讲到公义、节制和将来的审判时，腓利斯十分恐惧，说：“你先下去吧，改天有机会，我再叫你来。”腓利斯希望保罗贿赂他，所以经常召他来谈话。

告诉他们，‘王说，要把这人关在监牢，只给他一些饼和水，直到我平安地回来。’”

耶利米被囚在护卫兵的院子里，一直到耶路撒冷沦陷。
