So they took Jeremiah and put him into the cistern of Malkijah, the king’s son, which was in the courtyard of the guard. They lowered Jeremiah by ropes into the cistern; it had no water in it, only mud, and Jeremiah sank down into the mud.

King Zedekiah then gave orders for Jeremiah to be placed in the courtyard of the guard and given a loaf of bread from the street of the bakers each day until all the bread in the city was gone. So Jeremiah remained in the courtyard of the guard. (niv)

Jeremiah was put into a vaulted cell in a dungeon, where he remained a long time. (niv)

As for you, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will free your prisoners from the waterless pit. (niv)

They repay me evil for good, and hatred for my friendship. (niv)

Those who were my enemies without cause hunted me like a bird.They tried to end my life in a pit and threw stones at me;the waters closed over my head, and I thought I was about to perish.I called on your name, Lord, from the depths of the pit. (niv)

So Ebed-Melek took the men with him and went to a room under the treasury in the palace. He took some old rags and worn-out clothes from there and let them down with ropes to Jeremiah in the cistern.Ebed-Melek the Cushite said to Jeremiah,“ Put these old rags and worn-out clothes under your arms to pad the ropes.” Jeremiah did so, (niv)

You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. (niv)

We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. (niv)
