You said,‘ Woe to me! The Lord has added sorrow to my pain; I am worn out with groaning and find no rest.’

爾嘗云、禍哉我也、耶和華於我痛苦之上、增以憂戚、我呻吟而疲憊、不獲綏安、

爾常言、嗚呼、耶和華增我憂愁、恐懼歔欷、不獲平康。

爾嘗言、哀哉、主增我憂、加我苦、我因歎息而困憊、不得平康、

‘ You have said,“ How terrible it is for me! The Lord has added sorrow to my pain. I’m worn out from all my groaning. I can’t find any rest.” ’

You said,‘ Woe is me! For the Lord has added sorrow to my pain. I am weary with my groaning, and I find no rest.’

You have said,‘ I am overwhelmed with trouble! Haven’t I had enough pain already? And now the Lord has added more! I am worn out from sighing and can find no rest.’

‘ You have said,“ Woe is me, because the LORD has added misery to my pain! I am worn out with groaning and have found no rest.”’

‘ You said,“ Oh, woe to me! For the Lord has added grief to my pain; I am weary with my groaning and have found no rest.” ’

‘ You said,“ Woe is me now! For the Lord has added grief to my sorrow. I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest.”’

Thou didst say, Woe is me now! for Jehovah hath added sorrow to my pain; I am weary with my groaning, and I find no rest.

‘ You have said,“ Woe is me, because the Lord has added misery to my pain! I am worn out with groaning and have found no rest.”’

Thou didst say, Woe is me now! for the LORD hath added grief to my sorrow; I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest.

‘ You have said,“ I feel so hopeless! For the LORD has added sorrow to my suffering. I am worn out from groaning. I can’t find any rest.”’”

‘ You said,“ Woe is me now! For Yahweh has added sorrow to my pain! I am weary with my groaning, and I find no rest.”’

Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart.

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says,“ My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,

Oh, that my head were a spring of water and my eyes a fountain of tears! I would weep day and night for the slain of my people.

“ Let all their wickedness come before you; deal with them as you have dealt with me because of all my sins. My groans are many and my heart is faint.”

I am worn out calling for help; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God.

“ Even today my complaint is bitter; his hand is heavy in spite of my groaning.

Alas, my mother, that you gave me birth, a man with whom the whole land strives and contends! I have neither lent nor borrowed, yet everyone curses me.The Lord said,“ Surely I will deliver you for a good purpose; surely I will make your enemies plead with you in times of disaster and times of distress.“ Can a man break iron— iron from the north— or bronze?“ Your wealth and your treasures I will give as plunder, without charge, because of all your sins throughout your country.I will enslave you to your enemies in a land you do not know, for my anger will kindle a fire that will burn against you.”Lord, you understand; remember me and care for me. Avenge me on my persecutors. You are long- suffering— do not take me away; think of how I suffer reproach for your sake.When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, Lord God Almighty.I never sat in the company of revelers, never made merry with them; I sat alone because your hand was on me and you had filled me with indignation.Why is my pain unending and my wound grievous and incurable? You are to me like a deceptive brook, like a spring that fails.Therefore this is what the Lord says:“ If you repent, I will restore you that you may serve me; if you utter worthy, not worthless, words, you will be my spokesman. Let this people turn to you, but you must not turn to them.I will make you a wall to this people, a fortified wall of bronze; they will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you to rescue and save you,” declares the Lord.“ I will save you from the hands of the wicked and deliver you from the grasp of the cruel.”

Then Jacob tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and mourned for his son many days.All his sons and daughters came to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted.“ No,” he said,“ I will continue to mourn until I join my son in the grave.” So his father wept for him.

And Joshua said,“ Alas, Sovereign Lord, why did you ever bring this people across the Jordan to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us? If only we had been content to stay on the other side of the Jordan!Pardon your servant, Lord. What can I say, now that Israel has been routed by its enemies?The Canaanites and the other people of the country will hear about this and they will surround us and wipe out our name from the earth. What then will you do for your own great name?”

You deceived me, Lord, and I was deceived; you overpowered me and prevailed. I am ridiculed all day long; everyone mocks me.Whenever I speak, I cry out proclaiming violence and destruction. So the word of the Lord has brought me insult and reproach all day long.But if I say,“ I will not mention his word or speak anymore in his name,” his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.I hear many whispering,“ Terror on every side! Denounce him! Let’s denounce him!” All my friends are waiting for me to slip, saying,“ Perhaps he will be deceived; then we will prevail over him and take our revenge on him.”But the Lord is with me like a mighty warrior; so my persecutors will stumble and not prevail. They will fail and be thoroughly disgraced; their dishonor will never be forgotten.Lord Almighty, you who examine the righteous and probe the heart and mind, let me see your vengeance on them, for to you I have committed my cause.Sing to the Lord! Give praise to the Lord! He rescues the life of the needy from the hands of the wicked.Cursed be the day I was born! May the day my mother bore me not be blessed!Cursed be the man who brought my father the news, who made him very glad, saying,“ A child is born to you— a son!”May that man be like the towns the Lord overthrew without pity. May he hear wailing in the morning, a battle cry at noon.For he did not kill me in the womb, with my mother as my grave, her womb enlarged forever.Why did I ever come out of the womb to see trouble and sorrow and to end my days in shame?

I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good.

I remembered you, God, and I groaned; I meditated, and my spirit grew faint.You kept my eyes from closing; I was too troubled to speak.

Woe to me that I dwell in Meshek, that I live among the tents of Kedar!

I am worn out from my groaning. All night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.

He asked the Lord,“ Why have you brought this trouble on your servant? What have I done to displease you that you put the burden of all these people on me?Did I conceive all these people? Did I give them birth? Why do you tell me to carry them in my arms, as a nurse carries an infant, to the land you promised on oath to their ancestors?Where can I get meat for all these people? They keep wailing to me,‘ Give us meat to eat!’I cannot carry all these people by myself; the burden is too heavy for me.If this is how you are going to treat me, please go ahead and kill me— if I have found favor in your eyes— and do not let me face my own ruin.”

Their father Jacob said to them,“ You have deprived me of my children. Joseph is no more and Simeon is no more, and now you want to take Benjamin. Everything is against me!”Then Reuben said to his father,“ You may put both of my sons to death if I do not bring him back to you. Entrust him to my care, and I will bring him back.”But Jacob said,“ My son will not go down there with you; his brother is dead and he is the only one left. If harm comes to him on the journey you are taking, you will bring my gray head down to the grave in sorrow.”

Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me.

If you falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength!

God has turned me over to the ungodly and thrown me into the clutches of the wicked.All was well with me, but he shattered me; he seized me by the neck and crushed me. He has made me his target;his archers surround me. Without pity, he pierces my kidneys and spills my gall on the ground.

You who are my Comforter in sorrow, my heart is faint within me.

Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love.

“ From on high he sent fire, sent it down into my bones. He spread a net for my feet and turned me back. He made me desolate, faint all the day long.

I am the man who has seen affliction by the rod of the Lord’s wrath.He has driven me away and made me walk in darkness rather than light;indeed, he has turned his hand against me again and again, all day long.He has made my skin and my flesh grow old and has broken my bones.He has besieged me and surrounded me with bitterness and hardship.He has made me dwell in darkness like those long dead.He has walled me in so I cannot escape; he has weighed me down with chains.Even when I call out or cry for help, he shuts out my prayer.He has barred my way with blocks of stone; he has made my paths crooked.Like a bear lying in wait, like a lion in hiding,he dragged me from the path and mangled me and left me without help.He drew his bow and made me the target for his arrows.He pierced my heart with arrows from his quiver.I became the laughingstock of all my people; they mock me in song all day long.He has filled me with bitter herbs and given me gall to drink.He has broken my teeth with gravel; he has trampled me in the dust.I have been deprived of peace; I have forgotten what prosperity is.So I say,“ My splendor is gone and all that I had hoped from the Lord.”I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall.
