Why do we sit still? assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the defenced cities, and let us be silent there: for the LORD our God hath put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have sinned against the LORD.

我儕靜坐何為乎、其會集而入鞏固之邑、隕亡於彼、我上帝耶和華飲我以毒水、使我隕亡、緣我干犯耶和華也、

Why are we sitting here? Gather together! Let us flee to the fortified cities and perish there! For the Lord our God has doomed us to perish and given us poisoned water to drink, because we have sinned against him.

Why are we sitting here? Let’s gather together! Let’s run to the cities that have high walls around them! Let’s die there! The Lord our God has sentenced us to death. He has given us poisoned water to drink. That’s because we’ve sinned against him.

“ Then the people will say,‘ Why should we wait here to die? Come, let’s go to the fortified towns and die there. For the Lord our God has decreed our destruction and has given us a cup of poison to drink because we sinned against the Lord.

Why are we just sitting here? Gather together; let’s enter the fortified cities and perish there, for the LORD our God has destroyed us. He has given us poisoned water to drink, because we have sinned against the LORD.

The people say,“ Why are we just sitting here? Let us gather together inside the fortified cities. Let us at least die there fighting, since the LORD our God has condemned us to die. He has condemned us to drink the poison waters of judgment because we have sinned against him.

“ Why do we sit still? Assemble yourselves! Let’s enter into the fortified cities, and let’s be silent there; for Yahweh our God has put us to silence, and given us poisoned water to drink, because we have sinned against Yahweh.

Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets; Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall: for from the prophets of Jerusalem is profaneness gone forth into all the land.

Remembering mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.

But it came to pass, when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians: so we dwell at Jerusalem.

And David said to Abishai, Now shall Sheba the son of Bichri do us more harm than[ did] Absalom: take thou thy lord’s servants, and pursue after him, lest he get him fenced cities, and escape us.

They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted[ thereof], he would not drink.

Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go[ and] serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;

Declare ye in Judah, and publish in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the trumpet in the land: cry, gather together, and say, Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the defenced cities.Set up the standard toward Zion: retire, stay not: for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.

And a man’s uncle shall take him up, and he that burneth him, to bring out the bones out of the house, and shall say unto him that[ is] by the sides of the house,[ Is there] yet[ any] with thee? and he shall say, No. Then shall he say, Hold thy tongue: for we may not make mention of the name of the LORD.

Then Moses said unto Aaron, This[ is it] that the LORD spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace.

Be silent, O all flesh, before the LORD: for he is raised up out of his holy habitation.

[ It is] good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.He sitteth alone and keepeth silence, because he hath borne[ it] upon him.

I was dumb with silence, I held my peace,[ even] from good; and my sorrow was stirred.

But the LORD[ is] in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.

We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness,[ and] the iniquity of our fathers: for we have sinned against thee.

And the priest shall set the woman before the LORD, and uncover the woman’s head, and put the offering of memorial in her hands, which[ is] the jealousy offering: and the priest shall have in his hand the bitter water that causeth the curse:And the priest shall charge her by an oath, and say unto the woman, If no man have lain with thee, and if thou hast not gone aside to uncleanness[ with another] instead of thy husband, be thou free from this bitter water that causeth the curse:But if thou hast gone aside[ to another] instead of thy husband, and if thou be defiled, and some man have lain with thee beside thine husband:Then the priest shall charge the woman with an oath of cursing, and the priest shall say unto the woman, The LORD make thee a curse and an oath among thy people, when the LORD doth make thy thigh to rot, and thy belly to swell;And this water that causeth the curse shall go into thy bowels, to make[ thy] belly to swell, and[ thy] thigh to rot: And the woman shall say, Amen, amen.And the priest shall write these curses in a book, and he shall blot[ them] out with the bitter water:And he shall cause the woman to drink the bitter water that causeth the curse: and the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her,[ and become] bitter.

For their vine[ is] of the vine of Sodom, and of the fields of Gomorrah: their grapes[ are] grapes of gall, their clusters[ are] bitter:

And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die?If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine[ is] in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.
