“‘ This is what the LORD says: The wise person should not boast in his wisdom; the strong should not boast in his strength; the wealthy should not boast in his wealth.

This is what the Lord says:“ Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches,

The Lord says,“ Do not let wise people brag about how wise they are. Do not let strong people boast about how strong they are. Do not let rich people brag about how rich they are.

Thus says the Lord:“ Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches,

This is what the Lord says:“ Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches.

This is what the Lord says:“ Let no wise man boast of his wisdom, nor let the mighty man boast of his might, nor a rich man boast of his riches;

Thus says the Lord:“ Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;

Thus saith Jehovah, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches;

This is what the Lord says: The wise man must not boast in his wisdom; the strong man must not boast in his strength; the wealthy man must not boast in his wealth.

Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise[ man] glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty[ man] glory in his might, let not the rich[ man] glory in his riches:

The LORD says,“ Wise people should not boast that they are wise. Powerful people should not boast that they are powerful. Rich people should not boast that they are rich.

Yahweh says,“ Don’t let the wise man glory in his wisdom. Don’t let the mighty man glory in his might. Don’t let the rich man glory in his riches.

Instead, God has chosen what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen what is weak in the world to shame the strong.God has chosen what is insignificant and despised in the world— what is viewed as nothing— to bring to nothing what is viewed as something,so that no one may boast in his presence.

Again I saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, or the battle to the strong, or bread to the wise, or riches to the discerning, or favor to the skillful; rather, time and chance happen to all of them.

Woe to those who consider themselves wise and judge themselves clever.

Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks he is wise in this age, let him become a fool so that he can become wise.For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God, since it is written, He catches the wise in their craftiness;and again, The Lord knows that the reasonings of the wise are futile.

Claiming to be wise, they became fools

Wealth is not profitable on a day of wrath, but righteousness rescues from death.

But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t boast and deny the truth.Such wisdom does not come down from above but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.For where there is envy and selfish ambition, there is disorder and every evil practice.

For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will set aside the intelligence of the intelligent.Where is the one who is wise? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the debater of this age? Hasn’t God made the world’s wisdom foolish?For since, in God’s wisdom, the world did not know God through wisdom, God was pleased to save those who believe through the foolishness of what is preached.

They will throw their silver into the streets, and their gold will seem like something filthy. Their silver and gold will be unable to save them in the day of the LORD’s wrath. They will not satisfy their appetites or fill their stomachs, for these were the stumbling blocks that brought about their iniquity.

Then Ben-hadad sent messengers to him and said,“ May the gods punish me and do so severely if Samaria’s dust amounts to a handful for each of the people who follow me.”The king of Israel answered,“ Say this:‘ Don’t let the one who puts on his armor boast like the one who takes it off.’”

They trust in their wealth and boast of their abundant riches.Yet these cannot redeem a person or pay his ransom to God—since the price of redeeming him is too costly, one should forever stop trying—so that he may live forever and not see the Pit.For one can see that the wise die; the foolish and stupid also pass away. Then they leave their wealth to others.Their graves are their permanent homes, their dwellings from generation to generation, though they have named estates after themselves.But despite his assets, mankind will not last; he is like the animals that perish.This is the way of those who are arrogant, and of their followers, who approve of their words. Selah

The righteous will see and fear, and they will derisively say about that hero,“ Here is the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches, taking refuge in his destructive behavior.”

You may say to yourself,‘ My power and my own ability have gained this wealth for me,’

Place no trust in oppression or false hope in robbery. If wealth increases, don’t set your heart on it.

“ Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre,‘ This is what the Lord GOD says: Your heart is proud, and you have said,“ I am a god; I sit in the seat of gods in the heart of the sea.” Yet you are a man and not a god, though you have regarded your heart as that of a god.Yes, you are wiser than Daniel; no secret is hidden from you!By your wisdom and understanding you have acquired wealth for yourself. You have acquired gold and silver for your treasuries.By your great skill in trading you have increased your wealth, but your heart has become proud because of your wealth.“‘ Therefore, this is what the Lord GOD says: Because you regard your heart as that of a god,I am about to bring strangers against you, ruthless men from the nations. They will draw their swords against your magnificent wisdom and will pierce your splendor.They will bring you down to the Pit, and you will die a violent death in the heart of the sea.Will you still say,“ I am a god,” in the presence of those who slay you? Yet you will be only a man, not a god, in the hands of those who kill you.

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

The assembled people began to shout,“ It’s the voice of a god and not of a man!”At once an angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give the glory to God, and he was eaten by worms and died.

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, exalt, and glorify the King of the heavens, because all his works are true and his ways are just. He is able to humble those who walk in pride.

If I placed my confidence in gold or called fine gold my trust,if I have rejoiced because my wealth is great or because my own hand has acquired so much,

the king exclaimed,“ Is this not Babylon the Great that I have built to be a royal residence by my vast power and for my majestic glory?”While the words were still in the king’s mouth, a voice came from heaven:“ King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is declared that the kingdom has departed from you.

Their silver and their gold will be unable to rescue them on the day of the LORD’s wrath. The whole earth will be consumed by the fire of his jealousy, for he will make a complete, yes, a horrifying end of all the inhabitants of the earth.

But when the Lord finishes all his work against Mount Zion and Jerusalem, he will say,“ I will punish the king of Assyria for his arrogant acts and the proud look in his eyes.”For he said: I have done this by my own strength and wisdom, for I am clever. I abolished the borders of nations and plundered their treasures; like a mighty warrior, I subjugated the inhabitants.

For he says,“ Aren’t all my commanders kings?

Then a champion named Goliath, from Gath, came out from the Philistine camp. He was nine feet, nine inches talland wore a bronze helmet and bronze scale armor that weighed one hundred twenty-five pounds.There was bronze armor on his shins, and a bronze javelin was slung between his shoulders.His spear shaft was like a weaver’s beam, and the iron point of his spear weighed fifteen pounds. In addition, a shield-bearer was walking in front of him.He stood and shouted to the Israelite battle formations,“ Why do you come out to line up in battle formation?” He asked them,“ Am I not a Philistine and are you not servants of Saul? Choose one of your men and have him come down against me.If he wins in a fight against me and kills me, we will be your servants. But if I win against him and kill him, then you will be our servants and serve us.”Then the Philistine said,“ I defy the ranks of Israel today. Send me a man so we can fight each other!”

Your Majesty, the Most High God gave sovereignty, greatness, glory, and majesty to your predecessor Nebuchadnezzar.Because of the greatness he gave him, all peoples, nations, and languages were terrified and fearful of him. He killed anyone he wanted and kept alive anyone he wanted; he exalted anyone he wanted and humbled anyone he wanted.But when his heart was exalted and his spirit became arrogant, he was deposed from his royal throne and his glory was taken from him.He was driven away from people, his mind was like an animal’s, he lived with the wild donkeys, he was fed grass like cattle, and his body was drenched with dew from the sky until he acknowledged that the Most High God is ruler over human kingdoms and sets anyone he wants over them.“ But you his successor, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, even though you knew all this.Instead, you have exalted yourself against the Lord of the heavens. The vessels from his house were brought to you, and as you and your nobles, wives, and concubines drank wine from them, you praised the gods made of silver and gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see or hear or understand. But you have not glorified the God who holds your life-breath in his hand and who controls the whole course of your life.

He frustrates the schemes of the crafty so that they achieve no success.He traps the wise in their craftiness so that the plans of the deceptive are quickly brought to an end.They encounter darkness by day, and they grope at noon as if it were night.

The land of Egypt will be a desolate ruin. Then they will know that I am the LORD. Because you said,“ The Nile is my own; I made it,”

Escape will fail the swift, the strong one will not maintain his strength, and the warrior will not save his life.The archer will not stand his ground, the one who is swift of foot will not save himself, and the one riding a horse will not save his life.Even the most courageous of the warriors will flee naked on that day— this is the LORD’s declaration.

A king is not saved by a large army; a warrior will not be rescued by great strength.The horse is a false hope for safety; it provides no escape by its great power.

And I realized that there is an advantage to wisdom over folly, like the advantage of light over darkness.The wise person has eyes in his head, but the fool walks in darkness. Yet I also knew that one fate comes to them both.So I said to myself,“ What happens to the fool will also happen to me. Why then have I been overly wise?” And I said to myself that this is also futile.For, just like the fool, there is no lasting remembrance of the wise, since in the days to come both will be forgotten. How is it that the wise person dies just like the fool?

The disciples were astonished at his words. Again Jesus said to them,“ Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God!

“ Now make a deal with my master, the king of Assyria. I’ll give you two thousand horses if you’re able to supply riders for them!How then can you drive back a single officer among the least of my master’s servants? How can you rely on Egypt for chariots and horsemen?

Then I’ll say to myself,“ You have many goods stored up for many years. Take it easy; eat, drink, and enjoy yourself.”’“ But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your life is demanded of you. And the things you have prepared— whose will they be?’

Do not be afraid when a person gets rich, when the wealth of his house increases.For when he dies, he will take nothing at all; his wealth will not follow him down.Though he blesses himself during his lifetime— and you are acclaimed when you do well for yourself—

When the Philistine looked and saw David, he despised him because he was just a youth, healthy and handsome.

Now if you’re ready, when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, drum, and every kind of music, fall down and worship the statue I made. But if you don’t worship it, you will immediately be thrown into a furnace of blazing fire— and who is the god who can rescue you from my power?”

And who knows whether he will be wise or a fool? Yet he will take over all my work that I labored at skillfully under the sun. This too is futile.
